Why are Americans SO gullible as to believe Democrats and Republicans?
Neither McCain nor Obama take the Constitution seriously. Same with MOST Members of Congress, the judiciary, and legions of parasitic bureaucrats that hold dominion over our lives with threat of imprisonment, confiscation (read THEFT) of our property, etc.

Many of us don't but they are the only game in town. Both of them have enough die hard members to be sure that a third party won't stand a chance so we can either deal with one of those two or just accept that we have no real voice in our government.
We can believe them or not but whether we do or we don't one of them will control our destiny and there isn't really anything we can do about it.
The Constitution is like a contract between the people and the government. The trouble is there is no court to take it too if the government decides to ignore it. If they don't abide by the Constitution and we don't make them then it really is just a piece of paper. But whether or not McCain or Obama take it seriously isn't the issue. Its whether we do and half of us don't even know what it says so there's your answer to that question.
There is no reason for our government to care one whit about the constitution if we don't even care enough to know what rights were losing.

Because this is the traditional set-up of most political systems. You can call the parties anything, no matter where you go, there will be a somewhat leftist view against a right-wing kind. This is how politics and our way of thinking works: most people are either for leftist values or for rightist ones. People tend to form groups and as they have no other choice, they either support D or R. Does an average citizen have another choice?
Btw, what do you mean by "threat of imprisonment"? This is no dictatorship, I have never felt that I would have to be afraid of imprisonment for no reason.

this country is going down the wrong path and i believe our elected president will be caught up in the socialism that is sweeping this nation no matter who is will be. We are in the process of being over thrown by illegal immigrants who will eventually rule this country which is exactly what our government wants. This is how the Roman Empire fell. The reason they want this is so that there will be more of a dependence on government and people will be more willing to hand over power. The key word "power". They want to control our banks, our schools, health care, etc.. pretty soon we will become like Communist China.

Because people blindly stand by party lines and choose to think inside their lead boxes. It is also a case of the lesser of 2 evils. We know that politicians lie and both candidates HAVE lied numerous times....so really you have to be willing to take what they campaign with a grain of salt and hope for the best.
If you look around YA!, there are SO many people who go to extraordinary lengths to defend their respective candidates and it never ceases to amaze me how vicious people are supporting politicians who are basically out for money and power.
Short answer: Narrow-mindedness.

No, yet this of course astroturfed group of violent enthusiasts prepare how gullible Democrats are, and how keen you're to provide up your rights, money and livelihood to any petty tyrant or would-be dictator who blames all their strikes on the corporate Boogeyman.
