iTunes hides the songs because they don't want to to copy it and ...etc. They only allow you to play it on your iPod or iTunes. You can either download a program that allows to extract the songs from your ipod or you can follow the steps below.
1. Plug your Ipod into your computer.
2. Your computer should recognise it as a removable hardrive in My Computers
3. Open up your Ipod folder in My Computer
4. There should be 5 folders - Calenders, Contacts, Notes, Photos and recordings. (they might be different accroding to what ipod you have. i don't know. i have 3rd generation ipod nano.)
5. Click on the "tools" button in the top left corner of the screen. There should be an option "Folder Options"
6.Click on the "View" tab
7.Look down the advance settings and you should see an option that says "show hidden files and folders" click on that and press "ok"
8.A new folder should appear. "Ipod Controls" it should be faintly coloured unlike the other folders.
9.Open it and click onto another folder "Music"
10. A series of other folders should appear. eg. F00, F01, F02 etc.
Your music is all there from your ipod. they will have four letter names. eg. OHGC, ABCH...
All you need to do is copy those music files and save them on your computer. You can rename them if you like but i think that are automatically renamed if you put them into another iTunes Library on another computer. This method is for windows only. It took me a long time to research how to do it. i hope i saved you time. :D

yet an option determination for you is to contemplate applying a problematicpersistent Enclosure to make your own back-up solition. in case you have have been given an previous laptop or pc laptop at domicile that no person is applying anymore you could take the hard disk out of it and positioned it into an exterior enclosure and howdy presto you have an exterior back up which will shop hundreds of music tracks. while you're taking even a small problematicpersistent of say 80GB then the storage for music is great. The problematicpersistent enclosures are purely around £8 so if think ofyou've have been given a prior problematicpersistent its an incredibly good and much less high priced determination. look into the problematicpersistent enclosures at USBNow - i've got positioned the link under:

You can copy the files as *data* files to any device you like, for example as a backup or to transfer to a new computer. You would do this just like you would for photos or word documents.
However, to play them, you will need to authorise your computer with the iTunes store. You can have up to five computers authorised.
With regards to CD burning, you can burn copy-protected files up to 7 times. iTunesPlus files can be burned any number of times.

You can burn it to a CD then rip it as an unprotected DRM file. Then you can copy it to a USB stick.
