Whats a safe blood pressure ?

Hello, here's my question. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about 6 months ago and put on medication (Benicar 20mg). When initially checked 6 months ago my blood pressure was 141/110, I've been keeping active and have lost 25 pounds since then. Losing weight and taking my medication usually as instructed has dropped my blood pressure to 113/70 which I think is awesome but I want to make sure if that's a safe reading and that it didn't drop too fast. Any educated users are welcomed to answer. I'm currently 25 years old which I know is way too young to be on blood pressure medication.

113/70 is an awesome BP. It use to be thought that 120/80 was the optimal but now it is believed that lower is better. 110/70 is what people normally aim for. Losing 25 pounds is a huge accomplishment so congratulations. So is keeping active. Now that you've made these changes, your doctor may decide to slowly lower your BP meds to see if it is the result of the meds or the lifestyle change. Hopefully with lower doses, your BP will stay this low and eventually you'll be able to come off the meds altogether. Your best bet is to continue a healthy lifestyle that includes plenty of exercise to get your heart pumping to keep it strong.

Oh and dropping your BP over six months is perfectly healthy. Only if you have symptoms such as lightheadedness or dizziness would I be concerned.

    Good luck

You're BP is in great range. I always thought it low myself, but the doc said it is healthy and strong. the old 120/80 is almost considered high. I've been lower than the 113/70-no concern. I've been 90/60 & fine. Also, consider heritage. My family runs on the low side. I'd check for a safe range at WebMd online. You're fine-good luck!

Your blood pressure is excellent. Ideal is 110-120/70. You're there. Stay there by avoiding foods that raise blood pressure (those high in salt) and eating those that lower blood pressure (those high in potassium).
