are surgical bras needed after breast reduction surgery ?
I just had a breast reduction last week. The doctor is recommending a $70 bra for the next few weeks. I would obviously need at least 2 since I have to wear them around the clock. Will a really good sports bra do? I will need to buy those after I recover anyway since my old ones are HUGE. I am just trying to save a few bucks here but I don't want to ruin or damage my results.
I didn't spend a small fortune...my insurance did. My doctor deals with mostly rich people who are doing cosmetic procedures so he doesn't really relate to my finacial problems. Thanks to all of the POSITIVE answers. I really appreciate it. D2

You do not NEED a $70 bra.
I used a front closure bra from http://www.breasthealthonline.org/
and had no issues with healing. I just bought one that was the band size I usually am and one band size higher to accommodate for swelling. I had no problems with my healing whatsoever, my scars are hardly noticeable.

Double D or E are perfectly normal cup sizes =] people are only given breast size reduction on the NHS if their breast size gives them significant back pain or causes severe depression/ anxiety.

Why would you spend a small fortune on a surgery, and then ask people on the internet for advise; hence, a second opinon from a unlicensed professional, about something your doctor has recommended! Or did you have your surgery performed by someone you found on the internet also? Why do people ask important medical questions on the internet?
......go ask your insurance what they think about you not following doctors orders, and see if they plan on covering your post care cost.

We have a friend who had that done and didn't wear the surgical garments. She ended up with big stretched scars. I haven't seen them obviously but my wife said it is pretty bad, and they got all saggy and lumpy. It's your body, I would suggest you take the best care of it you can.

my mom had masectomies in April and her surgeon told her to wear a tight fitting bra like a good sports bra 24 hours a day.

if you don't want to ruin your results, get the bra the doctor recommends, a sports bra will NOT give you the support you need.
