Gave my husband's car a jump start.....?

.....now my battery is dead. Did we do it wrong? We attached all the cables first. Then I started my car (2002 Honda Odyssey).....it sputtered. Did the cars need to be running first?

You should have left your car running then attached the cables.

Yours should have been running at the time

2nd everything electronic / electrical inside should be turned off / unplugged >> Cell Ph charger, Stereo, A/C, GPS plug,

All of your power from your battery goes to the other car if yours was not running. If yours was running than your engine electrical system will be generating electrical capacity for your car while continuously recharging your battery while trying to jump start his.

1st drive your car at Highway speeds for about 15 to 30 mins.

This will allow the charging system to bring the battery back up to normal capacity.

2nd If the problem still remains then have your battery checked and put on a charger for about 2 hours. It may need to be replaced.

AUTO ZONE does free battery test and charging.

Look em up on line to see if theres one in your area.

Are you sure that you didn't loosen one of the battery cables when connecting or removing the jumper cables? I do leave my car running when jumping another car, but unless the other car was really difficult to start, it shouldn't drain your battery.

if your battery has been in your car for more than a year or two then the jump may have killed a battery cell, don't have to do anything wrong sounds like you hooked the jump up correct.
