I'm gonna go against the grain here and say that the book was actually amazing. If you're reading it for school, look for references to Holden wanting to save or preserve things, especially innocence. (This comes in a lot more frequently later in the novel.) THe red hunting hat is like, his safe zone; when he puts it on, he feels protected. Phoebe is his vision of like, the perfect mix between childhood innocence and "adult." At the end, when he's talking about the carousel, it symbolizes his acceptance that he can't keep everything pure.

Wow, I just gave you like a freaking book report.

Colloquial/informal language, frequent (although not always) cursing, and depending on your age some inappropriate material. It is a great book a the main character is pretty much on a quest to have sex throughout the whole book and ultimately fails.

don't read the last page!!!! i cannot stress that more.

it's a good book, expect some rambly narration that digresses a lot, plus lots of little anecdotes, twists and turns, but when you finish it it is a rewarding book, and undoubtedly a classic. you should enjoy it, i haven't spoke to anyone who has read it and hasn't.

I always read the last page of the book before I read it.

It was a book that almost got banned. There is bad language, and a lot of sexuality. I wouldn't suggest it... =S

Unless you are forced to, don't bother; it's crap!

So he was a teenager who was upset at the world, who wasn't?
