Looking for some tips or people to share about OCD?
So I have OCD and because I am under so much stress and pressure lately it has flared up to an almost unbearable level. I don't have to wash my hands or clean my house a million times a day (I am actually a bit of a slob) but I have rituals that I have to do every morning, afternoon, and night. They are actually a threat to my job as the morning rituals have made me late for work as I refuse to leave the house until they are completed. I have to enter every room or new textured ground on my right foot and I have an irrational fear of the number 6. Yup, I am nuts. I was on a low dose of amintryptiline for a while but it didn't do much. Any advice? Any similar situatios that you have learned to cope with? Any obnoxious comments from d*ck heads about how crazy I am?
Thanks for sharing Stella. I am hoping to shcedule a dr. appointment soon. (I haven't been to a personal psychologist in about 5 years becasue of insurance reasons) I will def. ask about those medications that you mentioned.

Just a little therapy with your meds, meds alone isn't a solution.

You are sooo NOT nurs. i have suffered with bad OCD and anxiety for over half of my life. I was so bad i would be hours late for school, i would have to step in the shower and out, numerous times, i coud not even get dressed at one point and it would take over an hour for me to climb the staris because if i had a bad thought in my head i had to start over. i have to touch stuff with diffrent hands and before i go into certain carpeted rooms in my house i have to step on the tile first. I have seen loads of Dr. and been on every treatment, the best were Lexapro and Effexor XR that I am on now "what a life saver" i know sweetie it totally sux but thanks to the meds i now don't need my valium or xanex hardley ever. feel free to write to. I am 30 and got this wheni was about 10 so i def know how you feel...

You are NOT NUTS..... I have had OCD for years and while i have been blessed that it has not totally disrupted my life there are things that make me feel like i am nutty. Checking and rechecking doors and locks, making lists of contents of my home desk bedroom etc. My daughter is autistic and has her touch of OCD too and we can make each other crazy with our checks and rechecks but medications AND therapy help alot. I understand and say again you are NOT NUTS.
Once you see your doctor they should be able to provide you with information on support groups and therapies that can help. Good Luck to you.
