Flying back to TX from Germany....with a dog?
Anyone know what months are too hot for pets to fly in the cargo of a plane? I know there are certain months you aren't allow to fly with pets, but I am not sure what months those are. We have a Jack Russel Terrier, and we are moving back to the states next summer around May or June. Thanks!

Across the board, animals cannot fly any airline if temperatures dip below 45 degrees, or soar above 85 degrees. The cold weather ruling can be overidden by a licensed veterinarian, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, if a dog or cat can tolerate exposure to lower temperatures. The 85-degree temperature rule, however, stands.

Hi Jenn,
As a pet relocation specialist for over 13 years, your question does not have an easy answer. The long answer is that each of the airlines must comply with the USDA regulation that animals can not be exposed to the outside temps under 45 and over 85 degrees Farenheit for longer than 45 minutes. The way each airline handles this regulation varies greatly. It also depends on the way your pet is being transported. There are also three different ways to transport an animal - in the cabin (if they are small enough); as accompanied baggage (in the cargo hold and on the same flight as you) or via the cargo operation of the airline. There are some airlines which transport animals year round but most do put an embargo on accompanied baggage shipments anywhere from May/June until August/September. You should contact the airline that you plan on using to find out about their rules or contact a professional pet relocation company to get their assistance.
