Spraying/bathing bearded dragons?
Just setting up viv and researching before purchase. After opinions please.
Many sources say that beardies do not drink from standing water. So do I mist/spray him, or mist/spray rocks to form little droplets? Couldn't this raise humidity and cause problems?
Also, bathing? Is it necessary, how often should I do it?
Many thanks

In the wild, Bearded Dragons do not get water from a standing water or a running water source. They get hydrated by the items they eat. This is the same in captivity. (some do learn to drink from a source and misting) Feeding a lot of veggies, greens, and fruits, will get your beardie nicely hydrated. As for misting the tank, yes it will raise humidity, so you dont do it often, only once a week. You also do not need to provide a water bowl in the tank either, so this will help the humidity level. Don't forget, they live(d) in the deserts of Australia, there isn't much water around.
The bath also comes in handy for hydration as well. While some Bearded Dragons don't eat many veggies, they need a 1-2 time weekly bath. While soaking, they absorb the moisture, in turn getting them hydrated. Yes, it is necessary. It's also good for shedding Bearded Dragons as it moistens up and softens the skin that is peeling. As for how often you do it, you can do it daily, or just a couple times a week. Some beardies love the bath, while others hate it. Your Bearded Dragon will give you the best answer for how often to do it.

Bathing isn't necassary unless it is having problems shedding or their are mites in your tank (then you use "Mite Away").
All my bearded dragons get all the hydration thay need from their daily vegetables and their water bowls.....I don't mist at all. Sure misting will raise the humidity, but with a screen lid it won't last long at all....so it is safe to do so.
Too be safe, I suggest you mist its cage and offer it free standing water froma bowl......give it both options.

I have never seen my guy drink, but I have seen him sit in his water bowl. For some of my other lizards that were having problems drinking, I would take a small air pump and hose for a fish tank and place the end of the hose in the water dish, this will make the water bubble and attract the lizard to the water and they drink.

spray drops on tip of nose once a day, watch it drink then bathe once a week. in a container,(large enough) to submerge head, it should then take a long drink, luke warm water. that should be enough for your beardie.
