Find three consecutive odd numbers whose sum is 39.

A set of wheels sold in an online auction for $560. This was $35 more than three times the opening bid. How much was the opening bid?

One of two supplementary angle is nine times as large as the other. Find the measure of each angle?

    1) x + (x+2) + (x+4) = 39

    3x + 6 = 39

    3x = 32

    x = 11

    The numbers are therefore 11, 13, 15

    2) Opening bid = x

    3x + 35 = 560

    3x = 525

    x = $175

    3) Supplementary angles add up to 180 degrees.

    x = one angle

    9x = other angle

    sum = 180

    10x = 180

    x = 18

    Other = 18 * 9 = 162

    560 - 35 = 3x
