Looking for reading material in italian?

Hi! I'm studying italian, and could do with some advice and help to find material suitable for reading for someone who can understand about 60%. I'm just starting to study but, for some reason, I can understand most of what I read (i've even tried newspapers and Wikipedia). That's, perhaps, because spanish is my first language, or because I spent many evenings during my teen age listening to a "think italian, speak italian" course on tape... can't really tell. Anyway, now I would like to find over the Internet, or to have suggestions of books, texts, anything I could find in Italian that is suitable for beginners. Any suggestions?

Update:

The thing is I know the easiest is to look for children's stories, (I did a huge improvement in english reading that sort of material, so I know that approach works), but I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for and where to find it...

Hi! I'm Italian... about children's stories, I would suggest you Bianca Pitzorno's novels. She was my favourite writer when I was a child, because the stories were really exciting and magic... my mother often read them and she liked them a lot too. So I think they're not childish and boring for adults. And they're written in a "simple" Italian

Spanish an Italian are very similar languages. I would suggest trying to find children's stories written in Italian.
