He was probably on the verge of snapping when they started pressuring him for money. I'm not condoning what he did but it sounds like their timing could have been better.

They were all 3 natives of Lithuania. Lithuanians are extremely intelligent and literate. "Lithuania (was once) part of the Soviet Union and was controlled by the communists politically and economically for more than four decades. When the USSR collapsed in 1991 Lithuania (gained) its independence. Through much of the 1990s the nation worked to convert its economy from a governmentally controlled socialist model to a free-market system (like ours). Economic recession, inflation, and unemployment were serious problems (just like here)."*

Perhaps these 3 young people came to America hoping to encounter fewer of these problems and enlarge upon their independence and business ideas, not realizing we suffer from the same problems. It's a very, very tragic story; I feel sorry for his wife especially. At least he turned himself in and admitted his crimes.

My boss would of done the same.
