Will Reason Ever Return?
The participants in this forum, from both nations are becoming paranoid with every passing day. What Gilchrist might have or might not have mentioned in his book is just an execuse. The Indian fans : The monkeygate incident happened during Gilchrist’s last series; it was a huge issue for him to ignore and he has every right to mention it in his book. What he has written may be the truth, may be it’s not. In either case, I as an Indian am proud of Sachin. If Gilly was not telling the truth, fine, Sachin’s reputation is intact, but I hope and wish Gilly was telling the truth, that Sachin lied. It shows, Sachin, ignoring his stature and reputation, unmindful of the negative publicity it’ll generate in Australi against him, decided to stand by a fellow Indian in a foreign land. Are you upset that Sachin stood by an Indian in his hour of need? The argumnet that the continent doesn’t belong to the Australians is meaningless and immature. If that’s the case, N. America doesn’t belong to the Americans and Canadians, S. America doesn’t belong to the Spanish, UK doesn’t belong to the English and finally India doesn’t belong to Aryans. All these places were conqured and subjugated by the present inhabitants at some point in History. The snatching of the Originals is what happened long back. Without going to the merits and demerits of it, it is an old issue which has nothing to do with the present culture of Australia.
The Australian Fans: There were references to communal clashes, denial of justice, illeteracy, Nuclear deal etc in recent posts. I am a christian, residing in a hindu dominated area, and I can say with full conviction I have never felt an outsider here. There are more Muslims in India than in Pakistan, and a majority of them live here happily, on their own choice. Some of the great personalities in the fields of Art, Politics and even cricket are Muslims. There is no disrimination as you think.
There are more English speaking people in India than say, in Australia or England or even both put together. With such a huge population, the problem of illeteracy in some areas is still there. That’s not here or there.
I read a post yesterday, ‘nun raped while police look on.’ It is far from the truth. Even the nun and the priest who talked to the media haven’t said any such thing. We have one of the most impartial judicial systems in the world. The murderers of the Australian Christian missionary, Stains were arrested by Hindu policemen, sentenced to death by a hindu sessions judge, the death sentence was confirmed by a hindu high court judge, the lawyers who argued capital punishment for the culprits were hindus. Is this justice denied or discrimination against one community? Please note this in the backdrop of the Rajiv Gandhi assasins yet to be taken to the gallows even after 18 years, inspite of his wife being the chairperson of UPA, the party in power. In India, the punishment for rapists and murderers of innocent children is swift and cold; religion, caste or politics doesn’t come into the picture.
There was also reference to the Nuclear Deal. If the world (including the Australian govt.) think today that India deserves the waiver, it is not a charity extended to us; it is something we have earned by being a responsible Nuclear power for the past 4 decades. Contrary to general perception, it is not to make more bombs(All the seven N. Powers have enough Bombs in their arsenol to destroy the Earth many time over) but to meet our growing demands of Energy.
The monkeygate has divided these two great nations as never before; yet deep in my heart I know, we’ll still clap and cheer every 4 & 6 by Gilly, Roy, Marsh and Hussey when they return for the next edition of the IPL next may. We are like that, fools! Don’t and can’t sustain hatred.
I understand, Mary, still all Australians are not like that, just as all Indians are not like you. This forum is to discuss cricket, a game we all love. It must be for that. We have to try our level best to keep it that way; whether we succeed or not is immaterial
Future Eagles Mummy!! I agree with you, I was there yesterday (Thiests v/s Athiests) It was pure Entertainment though I must say a little scary with all that stuff about burning hell and 2012 and final judgment etc.
Congrats, Siobhans, that's true character. This forum is for cricket and it'll remain like that, of course with some light exchanges
Ravii, running away has never solved any problem, everybody likes you, that's why you are being picked. People throw stones at trees with fruits, not barren ones.
Thanx Rehman for the kind sentiments; No, I won't go away, while I don't blame those who felt uneasy here.

Interesting, you presented India in a positive light, that was needed to be done, thanks
We can say the same for other countries too,all have their positive points
"The snatching of the Originals is what happened long back. Without going to the merits and demerits of it, it is an old issue which has nothing to do with the present culture of anyone "---i agree,we should move on
I agree,we should restrict ourselves to cricket on this forum, and there should be peace and harmony
When there are fans from rival teams present a bit of friendly banter is not unexpected
It happens in cricket stadiums,it is bound to happen in this virtual world too

I must say, I love your optimism!
this section seems to get more and more childish (only a few contributors though!!) as time goes on. The racist remarks from all parties must stop! There is nothing wrong with a bit of good natured ribbing (hope that is a term that is understood by the Indian supporters) but all the personal stuff and the rehashing of past incidents is just plain stupid! Surely these people have better things to do with their time?
Anyway, like I said,. i admire your optimism and i guess if one or two people stop the childish rubbish, something will have been achieved!
(And for those who like a real good childish site, pop across to the Religion & Spirituality site and "watch" the christians vs Atheists have a go!!! Now that is entertainment....)
EDIT Ravi, while I can respect your opinion, calling another team cheats is pretty low! And that is why Aussie supporters get upset. Noone wants to be called a cheat.

Once Indian fans are irritated, nothing will be right.
They may respect cricket and clap for cricket, but Gilly and "monkey" episodes will remain in History never to be forgiven.
We have friends who are Muslims, Sikhs Hindus and also Christians. Together we have fun in all Festivals of different cultures. Have sweets for Diwali, Gujias for Holi,Halwa for Gurpurav, Cakes at Christmas, Biriyani and kebabs at Id. We all live together and go beyond Language and culture.
Now "Chandrayan" is criticised. So was the Nuclear deal. Earlier it was a mere Game- IPL.They do not like to see India progress.
Outsiders will not understand. I do not try to explain either.

Interesting to read, I left the section but I have to make a comment on this.
Well Evan, I am not sure how long you have been in this section, but the Sydney fiasco initiated this whole mess, Australian were upset about Bhajji allegedly calling Symonds a "monkey" and Indians were upset about the victory being stolen, Hogg calling Dhoni a bastard and Ponting having a go at the Indian media.
Users were not happy on both sides, some got over it and some didn't want to, so personal attacks begin and this section got divided. I have nothing against Australia as a nation but the users here are insulting and abusing which is giving Australia a bad reputation.
I say Australia cheated in Sydney and India is the best team, this may not be a fact but just an opinion. Why can't my opinion be accepted, yet, Bingalee and Ange's (just using them as an example) opinions are respected. Why do I have to be called a whore and a coktease? Why attack my great nation just because they don't like what I say? T
There is too much bigotry here and thats why I left. What's the harm if we all respect each other? If you don't agree with something, you don't go posting personal information on the internet and insult the person.
Did you see thost pictures be posted up yesterday about Ashish? Have you ever seen him post non cricketing related questions? Answer is NO!
I have seen many peace keeping posts made and I have made them myself on many occasions, but the people who are doing it are cyber criminals, it's how they work. I haven't done anything illegal nor have I abused anyone, why am I inheriting it? Can anyone answer this?
I am not making a fact in my answers, just expressing views. If you disagree, there is no need to insult and abuse, you will accomplish nothing!
I have always wanted peace in this section and learn about what other think on an issue, but certain users are making it difficult. A real shame! I hope your post makes an affect.
Take Care and Kind Regards.
Jai Hind!
EDIT- Evan I will stay, I say Bring it On!
I am 17 and I never made racist remarks, all I said was that Aus cheated in Sydney. Bingalee, my intentions are not be popular, and it's a real shame that you can't tolerate it when I say Aus robbed India of victory.
I have nothing against anyone and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Which, I respect, regardless of what is said. I don't send hate mail or post personal info about the user just because they think India sucks.
Chakde India!

Good question Evan. You seem to be a true gentleman.
I must say I don't think this is a forum I would use if I was looking for a new boyfriend!! Sometimes it is good sport but one or two users on each side go way too far. How anyone could accuse Gilly of being a bad sport is incredible. I don't know Sachin but he deserves respect and I think Gilly gave it too him - so should the Aussie users here.
As for R&S, let us pray for a return of sanity in the cricket section, lol!!

A very good Q, and I have long wondered why this continues. But I have to take issue with Ravii. You wonder why you don't get the same respect enjoyed by Ange & myself? When did you ever see me calling Indians cheats, liars & worse? NEVER. But both Ange & I have received hate mail, racial abuse, threats and other insults regularly. I have been accused of many things, most of which I ignore, but I won't have our players called cheats. Any mistakes made by umpires are theirs, not our cricketers.Maybe if Ravii learns the difference between expecting & earning respect, she will be more popular here.

all you have said i agree with completely.....
so your trying to bring peace in this section.....
its a great attempt but sadly it will have no effect.....there are only 2 or 3 users who trash this section....
if those guyz go then we all can party....
but the problem is these guyz have no life and choose to bully other by sitting behind the computer all day....
they are just like the media....
they take small things and explode it so much that the opposition can't handle and then the war starts....
best thing thing to do is not care about all bad happenings in this section...

Dear Mr Evankutty,
I agree with what you have said in support of your nation. We must respect every nation and their people. My experience is that every nation has great, corageous and upstanding people . Be it India, Australia, Pakistan or Israel. Why my best colleagues (and friends) are from Melbourne !
I thouroughly enjoyed reading your post. It shows both reason and good spirit. I think you are new to this forum, so I havent had the opportunity to meet you. I am delighted that there is a new Gem like yourself in this section. There were a few before such as the user "Mithrandir" and "CJ Randhawa" both from India, who had similar sentiments such as yours, however, you will no longer find them here because abuse or bullying finally drove them from here. Then there was "Mr JustDoIt" , one of the most knowledgeable and respected users, again hailing from India. He also no longer comes here. However, till now I recieve emails from my elder brother Mr JustDoIt.
However, I like to collect these "gems" so I managed to invite them to our family called "OurMehfil". Here we discuss many matter often not related to cricket. If ever you feel like joining us please do, I know all of us will be very delighted having someone like yourself. The link is:

Another thing, I would like to caution both Australian and Indian users to avoid generalizations. There are some great Australian users, however, I seldom see posts from them. For example, I do not see many posts from Marco or Neil. Even here you can see that members like Siobhans are all good people. There are some more like Quandary who always answered questions with great intelligence. Bill P is simply great. There are many more such as Cossy, however, one must stay away from generalizations and ignore inflammatory posts because they really mean nothing. Similarly, there are fantastic users from India here still.
Mr Kutty, another thing worth noting is the degree of maturity. You are indeed a wise person and so you may agree that maturity may come with age. In this context, I will like to highlight what Ravii just said. I fully sympathize with her. She is only maybe 15 or 16. The kind of language used here for her by some more seemingly "mature" users is simply reprehensible. For what reason, because she supports her country? I have read some of her posts and to me it is okay if she finds Indian players better than Pakistan, why, because she is Indian. However, she has never hurt the sentiments of the Pakistani people by "passing-off" generalizations about Pakistani people such as some members in this forum from Australia. Now, am I going to call her evil names because she supports India?? To further amplify her nature she has sent me "rakhi" during the hindu festival of "rakshabandhan". This should be the spirit of opposition. To those few people who have no other work but spend their entire day on the net sieving through peoples personal information, get a life ! Do you know what cyber-stalking is? It is a crime and in most "civilized" nations punishable by law!
Finally, I also hope for you that you may find this a better place in the future, but, please do not expect it to change. I have been here for about a year and know that it will not.

when actual cricketers don't follow reasoning and throw mud on each other playing mind games and accusing each other , how can you expect the ardent followers to be reasonable, however it is important that the expression remains within the decency and is conveyed without abuse or racist remarks .

Its one of the most pointless and childish spats I've seen on the internet (I've been involved in some instances with it, I wont deny it) that has gotten way out of hand and has ruined this forum with the same crap day in day out. It would be nice if we could just discuss this great game we all love and at the end of the day just agree to disagree on certain issues. It would be nice if we all could just let it rest.
