How hard is it to change a water pump on a Honda 50 hrs outboard 4 stroke?
It was supossed to have been changed last year but my alarm keeps going off and the temp light is on and the stream of water coming out is a trickle. Is there anything other than the water pump it could be? I cleaned out the little valve the water line runs into.

No body beats Suzuki in reliability for 4 stroke outboards period ! Honda is the lightest but I don't like the carbs or the price. Yamaha and Mercury are one in the same. I would go for the Suzuki if you have to have a 4 stroke, and like Honda, that's all they sell. Just ask someone that works on 4 stroke outboards, you'll see what I mean. Many a safe journey to you no mater what you decide.@@@@@ Again, Suzuki would be your best choice. Any body that knows anything of pontoon boats knows that the larger your propeller, the better. The DF50 Suzuki has a 2.27 to 1 gear ratio. It can handle a 12.5 dia. prop at great efficiency compared to the competition. It is true that parts take longer to obtain, but if your conscious of the maintenance, you'll never have to cross that bridge. Again, Suzuki is your best choice.

Well it could be a blocked intake, and it could be a failed thermostat - but first step would be to replace the impeller. If the engine was supposed to have a new one a year ago then you have a straight forward job to do, and you knew it was due.
If the engine is fifty hours old then this should be the first service/tune from the dealer. Without knowing what size the engine is it is pointless suggesting more at this point.
Water pumps are not hard to do, and should be done every year, or two years at the most. The leg should be dropped every year as this will allow this service, and keep the bolts etc. free and allow you to examine for deterioration in out of sight places....
You should have a manual, if you do not then buy one - it is cheap insurance and you will always have it to refer to for any niggling questions.
Good luck.

my advice to you is, go to your local library and look it up in the section where they have the Chilton type books, this will give you exact things to do in detail so you don't accidentally break something or get stuck....they are usually pretty informational..that's what I do when I need info..I bring a pen and a note book to write stuff down...most even have part numbers for you...
I know you can do it and save tons of money too, plus at least you know the job WILL be done right!
good luck
