I need the basics on child support, please help!!?

okay, so I'm filing for child support and I would really like to know some basics. This is my first time doing this, the child is 9 yrs old. The father just stopped paying, ( we never went through the courts) I have all his info. But I want to know what the process is like. I live in Jersey and I am Living with my fiancee and we have our own 2 yr old. I do not work, I am a full-time college student. The father has another child on the way. He never has her on wknds. He barely see's her. basically he does nothing for her now. He use to send the payments and see her maybe 1 a month now nothing. He lives about 45min away. Any help will be appreciated! thanks. FYI we were never married.

Unless things have drastically changed in New Jersey, you are lucky. You don't need to hire a lawyer. Got to Children's services (or call). They will assist you with filling out all the paperwork you need to file suit. You will be notified of the court date and just show up.

Part of the paper work you will be required to fill out is a detailed income and expense schedule. The father will also be required to fill this out. The judge uses this to determine the child support amount.
