Will XBOX 360 ever get a blu-ray player?

I'm looking to finally go hi-def, and with HD-DVD sinking, I'm planning on going down to Blu-ray route. I already have an Xbox 360 - and there's constant rumours about whether it will or will not get a Blu-Ray player.

Anyone know anything?

Update:

In case it helps - I'm referring to the external player (like the HD-DVD one that's available for the 360) not an internal drive - which (I'd imagine) would mean there wouldn't be need for a whole new system or game redesign etc as already mentioned in some answers?

The Xbox 360 will by no ability have a blu-ray disk participant. Blu-ray is owned by Sony, and Sony makes the PS3. PS3 has the Blu-Ray and its quite a lot the in effortless words element it has going for its self. The Xbox tried to compete with this and made an exterior HD-force for the Xbox 360. the continuing conflict of HD and Blu-Ray.... Blu-Ray wins. the continuing conflict of Xbox 360 and PS3... Xbox wins. merely no longer with the Blu-Ray playback. also, the hot sprint board is available by the present "Blade" dashboard. i replaced into P**sed off myself of the undesirable new sprint, yet do not hardship, its nonetheless going to be there. also... Xbox stay suitable Time!! HOW astounding IS THAT??

    No they won't...

Maybe if they made a whole new system but that won't be anytime soon.

Why? Because they would have to integrate a blue-ray player into the Xbox 360; costing them a lot of time and money. BTW, now the companies that make Xbox games will need to (maybe not) make their games in Blu-Ray format. Too much other things as well

Sorry if this upsets you but thats why i own both Xbox and PS3.

To tell you the truth i play Xbox more because all my friends own them.

I doubt that it will get one. Since it was originally made by Sony, it probably won't go over to Microsoft, especially since they are 2 rival systems. I've heard some rumors about blu-ray players that hook up by USB cable to the Xbox. But I don't know if they work or even exist.

    microsoft will doubt doing that..

    ps3 has blu-ray

microsoft is not licensed with bluray.... only hd-dvd.... besides, bluray disks have memory of gigabytes, which cant handle the 360's processer

no they would have to make a new xbox for that it cant handle blue ray just go with the HD one

No, and if it did no games would be on BluRay.
