Those 2 gifts are great & practical ... but you may also want to get something extra that's a little more personal and sentimental (women love that stuff ... & the mom will really appreciate it). A good idea of some kind of memento box for baby's firsts ... like a pretty pink couple of boxes that hold baby's first haircut, first tooth, etc. They sell these at Red Envelope and places like that -- you can just google it. I got one of these for my son this year, at our shower, and i just love it.

How about a childrens bible? I'm a god parent and in our family part of that role is to spiritually lead the children. When she's older you can spend time with her reading the bible and helping her grow spiritually.

Her family will get tonnes of stuff between the baby showers, etc... material gifts will be "lost and forgotten" in the shuffle once she is born. A bible is a keepsake.

My favorite baby gift to give is a sterling silver baby spoon set. That way when people accuse her of being born with a silver spoon she can say, "Why yes I was."

That is a gift that she will cherish and will be a keepsake because of being silver and if you get it engraved she will hold it dear; maybe even feed her own child with it.

I'm not really sure,but when my BF has a child,I will be his/her god mother and I plan to get the baby a personalized piece of jewelery something that will last forever.
