How rapidly would someone with Anorexia Nervosa loose weight?
I'm currently in a Fashion Theory class and I'm writing a paper on body images and gender. As the media is portraying thinner and thinner women in their ads, I'm researching different types of body ideals found all around the earth and this includes diseases. However, does anyone know how rapidy a individual who is anorexic looses weight?
This is an online survey of personal opinions to coincide with my research.

It depends on the seriousness of the anorexia.
For example, my friend didnt eat ANYTHING for 2 weeks. She lived on ice, and lost 2 stone. She really wasnt happy with the results as her skin was saggy, and she just didnt like it. so, she then ate one frozen energy drink every 2 days, and worked out fr 2.5 hours every day. Her body toned up, and she lost even more weight. she was happy wth the results, but no one else was. she was just skin and bones and she looked disgusting. to think she only did this so that shed become "more attractive" to guys. all she did was make herself 100 times worse looking.
Hope i helped!

No one can answer this for you, as each person is different. Some people with anorexia will still eat minimally but over-exercise; some will not eat and not exercise; and some will both not eat and over-exercise. Based on how they approach anorexia, and also their personal bodytype and gender (I knew two men that were anorexic but only one woman, so it's not just a female problem), they may lose a lot of weight right away or not. It also depends on how much they weigh to begin with. Those that are severely over their body's personal "ideal weight" will lose weight extremely fast (up to 14lbs a week, even), while those who are closer to their body's personal "ideal weight" will notice that it is difficult to lose.
Body composition plays a part as well. Fat is our long-term energy source and the body is designed to hold onto it as long as possible. This means that if someone is very fatty, they won't lose weight as fast as someone who has more muscle on her or his body (muscle is the hardest for your body to maintain, since it requires to be fed almost constantly). This is why all anorexics are what is called "skinny fat," where they are thin but still very flabby.
While this isn't a specific number to answer your question, it is the truth so I hope that you can implement it into your paper.
