What does it mean to 'take my comments off the air?"?

I was listening to Talk of the Nation on NPR today, and heard several callers give a comment, and end it by saying, "and I'll take my comments off the air." What does that mean?

Lisa and Evil got it right. It simply means that the caller has no further comment, does not intend to reply and would prefer to listen to the host's answer on the radio where the quality might be better than on their phone. Especially a cellphone in an auto.

The caller might also want to record his/her comments and the response and will hang up and listen (and possibly record) to the answer off the phone.

There's usually at least a 7 second delay on all stations that air "live" calls, so the caller has time to do this and the host usually accomodates by pausing for just a bit.

It means that the caller will hang up and listen to the answer, instead of staying on the air.

By taking comments off the air, it just means that they're going to stop broadcasting them to everybody listening :)
