how to keep my dogs from eating everything outside?
i have recently moved from an apartment to a house with a large fenced in yard. my 2 dogs love the yard, but they are eating anything & everything outside and it's making them throw up! i would hate to have to keep them inside more, since the yard is a large part of the reason i moved. They eat dirt, sticks, leaves, and then they throw it all up! i know it is not good for them, but i don't know how to make them stop eating everything... any suggestions?
spray bitter apple all over the yard?... haha.... umm... that would take like a lifetime supply.... not really possible....

I'd say they're doing it because having a yard is so new to them and they'll get over it. But in the meantime, go out with them and keep telling them "leave it" when they go to pick up something they shouldn't be eating - reward with a yummy treat, throw a ball or frisbee for them to distract them, throw a stick and get them to bring it back to you so you can throw it again! They'll soon get tired of eating everything. Maybe they're bored and frustrated and not getting enough exercise.

hahahaha! my pup does the same, he's like a garden vacuum, saying that he got sick from eating ivy(poisonous for dogs)which wasnt funny at all. I rake my garden as often as my schedule permits &have taught him when I say 'no' he has to drop whatevers in his mouth - hard work though as you have to supervise all the time. I also use herbabone (not sure if they have it in US)or any other tasty chew or toy&that usually distracts him form eating his favorite delicacy of moss, soil&leaves. He used to like concrete too so I sprayed that with chew stoppa.Maybe once theyve got over the excitement of having a new garden theyll stop munching it up!

A lot of dogs eat stuff like that because they have an upset stomach. Go to the pet store and see if you can find some of the bitter apple spray and spray it on the lawn good luck

Dogs do that...they eat grass to make themselves throwup from an upset stomach....don't worry about it once the yard newness wears off then you should be fine and they will stop "eating" the yard. Please do not listen to the person telling you to spray bitter apple...

sounds to me that they are bored outside, provide them with a lot of toys and go out there and play with them. My dog eats a lot of things outside also, he use to be a stray before we adopted him, so he was living on that stuff during that time, its been hard but we did break him of the habit in about 6 months. Just be out there with them to so that your can correct that behavior. Good Luck.

well maybe ask a vet, but they might just be hungry, my dog wasn't getting enough to eat, and there for ate everything until we fed him more.
or maybe they need dome chew toys to chew on.

Take them to a vet to see if they have a problem causing them to do this.
