The pitch of a roof is the ratio of the rise to the half-span. If a roof has a rise of 32 feet and a span of 40 feet, what is the pitch?

    Here, from the question,

    Pitch of a roof = Rise / Half-span

    Rise = 32 feet

    Half-span = Span / 2 = 40 feet / 2 = 20 feet

    Therefore, Pitch of a roof = Rise / Half-span = 32 feet / 20 feet = 1.6 feet

    40 ft = span, so 20ft = half-span.

    So:

    32/20 or 8/5

    32/40, 32:40, 32 to 40 ( can be written in diff ways)

    or

    when reduced

    4/5, 4:5, 4 to 5 ( can be written in diff ways
