    No.

In every population of human beings are going to a few sick or evil people who commit horrible crimes, even in the Church.

The percentage of pedophiles in the clergy of the Catholic Church is actually less than that of society in general.

These few terrible people do not negate the faith, hope and love of over one billion Catholics.

Remember that the Church is neither the Church hierarchy nor the priests. The Church is God and His relationship with over one billion living Catholics on Earth and God only knows how many in heaven, all of whom make up the Body of Christ.

Remember that political scandals in nations, even up to and including the highest leaders, like President Nixon and the Watergate scandal, do not make the nation as a whole wrong, immoral, or worthless. And the Catholic Church is so much holier and more important than any nation.

In fact, because of the recent scandals, Catholic churches and schools are now some of the safest places in our society.

    With love in Christ.

    1. More people fail the Catholic Church than it fails them. It's called Secularism. This means the moral standards drop by those who embrace the philosophy that they are in charge. The Church is concerned, but is not there, nor does it care much for the whims of Materialists, Secularists and Humanists who are usually worldly and therefore really don't have anything they can say to defend the Church.

    2. Open your mind a little. One could consider any institution or denomination as failing society in one way or another, why would one only consider the Catholic Church, unless they were anti-catholic?

3.Child molestation happens everywhere, religious and secular, alike. The Catholic Church is very aware of the problems that she faces and has to deal with and is doing so to the best of her ability. They are only human, and humans make mistakes. They cannot read the minds of every priest, sister, bishop, pope or layperson that applies for the position they are working at. Nor can they predict the future. The Church deals with molesters, be they priests, sisters, bishops or pope, and even laypersons, that might not be fit for their duties, in a very matter-of-the-fact way. It is not tolerated any more in the Church, than in any other workplace.

    4. The Catholic Church does not oblige herself to preach the idea of "permanent membership". Rather, it respects the feelings and wishes of the individual as to the path they choose to lead. If the Church is not for you, don't torture youself in staying involved in something that you do not agree with. The question does not really have an answer, as you have to introspect the action and decide for yourself, with logic and reasoning. Think very seriously about your question before you act too rashly. Many Catholics have considered the same thing, but have considered otherwise after considering it would be admitting defeat. The Church does not suffer by the loss, it is disappointed at the loss.Only the individual suffers loss. Usually in more ways than one.

No,the population of Catholics have actually increased in the recent years.Though I'll always agree with someone if they feel that they want to leave the church as it's only their decision. Not all young Catholics left in the care of priests or been with the priests are molested. And not all priests are child-molesters either.Catholics are a bit surprised and disturbed by these incidents themselves but most of them don't look at all priests as child molesters. If we fear molestations from priests it's better to avoid situations when there is a possibility that such things may happen.

ya know, there are alot of Catholic churches across the US that have not had any problems with their clergymen...if you wish to be or remain a Catholic follow the teachings and beliefs of the sect, of which child molesting is not one...most importantly however, maitain a good relationship with God and Christ.

I don't think the Catholic church has failed us all, maybe some people and the victims of the crimes commited by some of the clergy, but for many Catholicism is, has, and will continue to be a very good thing in their lives. The Catholic church has done alot of good throughout the world...and yes I know every religion has its bad aspects or periods in history.

In my case, I lost all the respect I had when the children molesters were caught. I know it is not a good reason to abandon the faith but to me, it was just the cherry on the sunday.

I can't bring myself to give them respect again. Mind you, there are also molesters in other faiths. The difference is in the fact that they don't catch them all at the same time like the Catholic Church molesters were.

Of course not all Roman Catholic priests are child molesters. It is the height of absurdity, however, that in fact a high percentage of Roman Catholic priests are inclined to molest children. It goes against common sense since they are supposed to be examples of righteousness, and they obviously preach against sexual perversion, lust of the flesh and so on. No wonder it gets people up in arms and is a major controversy. It is a glaring example that something is very wrong. The Bible does not forbid marriage for priests. And in my opinion a sensible interpretation of the Bible includes interpreting in accordance with changing times and conditions. For that reason women should be allowed to be priests. God gave us brains to use them. We should not take every single word in the Bible literally. I do not think God would want us to, because that would be an insult to God.

Although the molestations and rapes of the children of the Roman Catholic church are downfalls in their own rite . . .

It is the fact that the Roman Universal church teaches docrine of men that is contrary to the Word of the Almighty that is cause for people to leave her and find their way to the LORD.

There are child molesters (no apostrophe) in all sectors of society - are you going to not send your kids to school in case there is a child molester there (it happened at my school), or not let your kids go to the park.....

It is very unlikely that in your church there will be a child molester, and you should not let the misguided actions of a few affect your life.

The Church has already taken drastic steps to address this problem. Even the Pope publicly apologized during his April visit to the United States this year.

    God bless.

I guess we had better leave the school systems too, since there are more teacher molesters than religious molesters.

But of course the perfect, un-biased media doesn't want you to know that.
