    2x + 3 => 1 (your objective:: to get the variable 'x' alone)

    --subtract three from one--

    2x => -2

    --then, divide -2 by 2--

    x => -1

    Hope this helped!!

    you first have to get X by itself. To do this subtract the 3 away. So now you have 2X=-2 The to get the X completely by itself you divide the 2 away (because that is the rule, to divide). So X =-1 (and this is because you divided the 2 away from the X and on the other side it was divided by the -2. Hope that helps.

    2x+3 = 1

    Subtract 3 from both sides. making 2x = -2

    then divide by 2 to both sides. making x = -1
