What would cause the console in my truck to not work properly?

For about three years, I've noticed that randomly, the battery gauge would be closer to the 8 than to the 18. When this happens my other gauges would not work correctly, though my head lights would work and when I turn the knob to turn my console lights off, my speedometer would start working, though the others wouldn't. Lately I've noticed this to be happening more frequently, I think it's tied to the cooler temperature, because I've never noticed this problem during the warmer months.

The only thing that all of those gages and lights share in common is the ground wire from the cluster to the chassis/body. Without knowing what you're driving, it's impossible to tell you where to look, but it should be fairly obvious if you can pull the cluster out as a whole. The various gages share a common cluster ground, but have different variable-voltage inputs, so for something to affect all of them at once points to a grounding issue. You probably just need to clean the connection at one end or the other.
