Companies will only pay to display ads without clicks if you have a very big site with loads of traffic, otherwise it's pay-per-click only for us smaller guys. I've just started using 'pay-per-play' ads though, which don't require clicks, what happens is it plays a short 5-second ad to every visitor and then you get paid for 100% of your visitors (as long as they stay on the page for at least the 5-seconds). Like most of these things though you only make big money with big traffic, I don't have huge traffic but i've been using this for a few days and racked up a few extra dollars, I use adsense as well, so by using both at the same time it makes that extra difference.

Google AdSense will pay you for displaying ads on your site. Actually, other people will rent the space, then pay google (PPC) and you will earn from that.
You need a lot of visitors to make any money this way, but yes it can be done.
