Lost motivation to exercise, any suggestions welcome?

I workout (cardio and weights) at home in the evening. I've tried the gym or w/friends, but I prefer to get it done by myself, then get on with life. I've been fine like this for years.

The last 2 months I have ZERO motivation, and have been skipping workouts. When I skip, I don't even care all that much. That's not like me. I've made changes due to boredom before, but this is different. The stupidest things stop me, like if it's cold inside, and I don't feel like changing into workout clothes. So I don't, and just sit around.

I used to worry about looking good, and that would get me moving. I'm still in shape (though I have lost some of my gains) but looking a certain way doesn't seem to motivate me anymore. I have been very down on myself lately, for other reasons... things I think I can't change like where I am in my life right now, people I'm around, other things about the way I look, etc. Working out has become not important, and doesn't make me that happy.

I don't want to be this way, but I can't snap out of it. How do I get that drive back? Any suggestions, exercise-related or more personal, are welcome.

Update:

Thanks everyone. All good answers. I'm going to try the before and after pics, I'm going to think about goals and making a contract w/ myself, I DEFINITELY need to clean up my clutter - I don't even like being in the room where I workout anymore, and there is a bit of depression in all this.

Write down your fitness goal and post it on your fridge. Make it kinda of like a contract. I hit the same kinda of situation that your in right now. Since I don't like to break promises, the "contract" encouraged me to go and accomplish what I wanted. I don't know if that would help you but I just thought that I'd share it. Another way to look forward to working out is to change up your routine.

    Good Luck!

I always find a fat picture of ourselves on the fridge is always a great way to motivate ourselves. Or having a breakfast that gives us a kick motivates us to do the exercise during the day. It depends on what you find motivates you in life and then focus on it. Excerise is also a great way of helping you with your weight loss kind regards sam X

I've had a similar problem as my wife died recently and I've been struggling with motivation in workout, etc...

I've done lots of different things to get myself picked up, such as keeping a journal, improving spirituality, etc. However, the one thing that's helped me the most is changing my environment. I've completely rearranged the house and cleaned out lots of things I didn't need, which makes me feel better, cleaner, clearer, refreshed. I've rearranged furniture, thrown out furniture, etc, and it's giving me a new perspective and motivation...

Make love not war - it's uses the most calories and is a great cardio workout!

Get home gym stuff, then it won't matter when it's cold and dark outside. Who wants to go to pretentious gyms on cold nights. Give yourself rewards. Fit in your gym routine then reward yourself with whatever makes you smile, happy, ecstatic.

Try this: put up some "before" pics of yourself around the house; bathroom mirror, closet door, fridge, entry/exit doors. and on your TV.

Source(s): The mirror is not my friend..............................lol

losing interest in things you once liked is a symptom of depression. if you think you might have depression you should get it treated by a doctor or someone else competent.
