Help I followed securityexperts advice and now my computer is really trashed!?

Please help.I downloaded and followed the steps of a person here and now when I try to open my home page it just sets there and searches without ever connecting.I also get a solid bar in the middle of my screen. The window will not connect nor will it even let me close it.I got to answers by going to search and then searched internet for yahoo. So,I am only running on half a screen.I deleted the program that I was told to install and it will not go away.(thats when my new problems started.it found 23 reg.changes but couldn't remove them even after paying for it)And like a fool I followed the advice of another person and turned off my system restore so,help there is out of the question. Please someone,my granddaughter needs this fixed for here homework.HELP????

Update:

The answer that got into trouble was,"Help me remove this adware please.

I have got back some functions now by,going into one suggested reg.cleaner and that worked great and re-running spybot as well as suggested by some of the top-answerers here.

Now it is back to only doing the annoying opening of windows while I am in the middle of something else.Pop up blockers are staying on now and I can close any of the windows that open without me asking.Sorry,I can't add better details,I just ain't to good at this.(But,I guess you already figured that out)

Hats off to you guys on here though, you always seem to make some kind of sense out my confusion. You guys ROCK!!!!!!

Update 2:

P.s. These windows that keep openng usually say...."advertisment"

Im not sure I understand what you want. You deleted a program, paid for something else and your internet browser no longer works? You needed to post the location of the original question that way "we" get a better understanding of the problem. IE7 or Firefox, XP or Vista?

For Internet Explorer go to Control Panel, open Internet Options, in the big white box type the name of the home page you want to open. for example www.yahoo.co.uk. Click apply bottom right and it should save it, delete anything else in the box.

For Firefox, start Firefox, open Tools, go to Options, on the Main Tab you can set the home page, again delete anything else in the box.

Why half a screen? do you mean your browser page is half of the screen size or your screen image is only half the size of the screen? to expand the page view click on the square box top right between the - and x.

If you get the full image but only in half a screen in the monitor size then right click in a blank space on the desktop, select Properties (Personalization in Vista) and change the screen resolution size to 1024x768 or if a wide-screen 1280x800 and see if that makes a difference.

What bothers me the most is the registry changes and you paid for it? What did you pay for? Particularly what was it called if it was a program or did you pay someone to do the work?

If you paid someone to do the work take it back, it is not fixed.

If you bought some software I do hope it was not a "spyware" removal program purchased from a pop up on your PC and paid for with a credit card. If it was a pop up asking for payment for a removal program then this is a scam. You need to immediately inform your Bank, check the payment as they often charge you twice and will do so again. Stop the payment, it is a fraudulent transaction and instruct the Bank to deny any future payments from this company.

I would suggest you need to run a full system scan for Virus, spy-ware and root-kit infections, you do have anti virus protection don't you? If not what are you doing? surfing without protection these days is almost suicidal. Try this http://www.avg.com/download-trial, this is a fully functional 30 day trial that will scan for all of the above (the free version does not)
