By 1844 the Mormons had settled in Illinois and built the second largest city in the State. In that year a mob murdered the President of the Church and his brother. To their surprise this did not end the Church. These and other mobs then threatened to destroy the city and harm the Saints. Brigham Young, the new leader chose to lead the members to the safety of the Rockie Mountains. In 1847 the arrived in Salt Lake and declared it was the place. They built farms and towns. They made peace with the Indians; unlike other territories they found a way to live together. Most importantly they built temples to be the House of the Lord.

  • The Mormons founded Salt Lake City, Ut and many other places in the west. But it all started in Salt Lake City, UT. They formed the state that later became Utah and set up church headquarters there. Salt Lake City, UT is not the only area with a high percentage of Mormons, in fact, the city itself has a lower percentage of Mormons in it compared to the rest of the state which is probably around 60%. Mesa, AZ and the surrounding area also has a high percentage of Mormons, as well as California. The reason for these is that many of these cities and areas were originally founded by the Mormons. Other settlers came later. Trivia: Did you know that Las Vegas was founded by Mormons? Looks like that city got out of hand! :)

First of all the headquarters of the church is located in Downtown Salt Lake City.

Also some of it is becasue of the pioneers that came across the plains. There was many hardships in other states so they could not establish the church in those states so they kept on moving west until they came to the Great Salt Lake Valley.

When they were chased out of the eastern states, they settled in the Salt Lake Valley. They've been migrating out since then.

Because it was the only tract of land that Brigham Young could found his religion. No other place in America would allow the followers to settle.Mainly because of their beliefs.Which were originally started by a man named Joseph Smith whom the followers of the Mormon faith believe is the prophet that found secret text buried in the ground and translated what is now the Mormon Religious Doctrine.Or something to that effect.

After beign kicked out of every other state, the mormon belt was not yet populated and the gol rush had not happen yet so the mormons set out to settle indian territory. nhere no one would bother them and they could practise their religion in peace.
