I dont understand Obama's tax plan?

Its obvious hes going to win, so I want to understand his ridiculous tax plan.

So, 40% of Americans will be paying no taxes, while those earning 250k or more will be giving 48% of the their income to the government.

I fail to see the equality in that. Everyone has a civic duty to pay taxes, and we should not put that burden on the wealthy.

How will this help at all? Everyone is feeling the economic crunch, not just the middle/lower class. Us wealthy people DESERVE to send our children to the best schools, own nice houses, and indulge in nice things on occasion. Wont this tax plan rob us and make us middle class.

I fail to see how this will work.

2. Why do celebrities endorse Obama if all their money will go to him when elected????/

Update:

I have faith in Obama; this tax plan is my only concern.

I earn 650k, dont judge me. That cut in half would take an enourmous toll on my family.

Update 2:

Do not call me stupid. I was fortunate enough to recieve a good education, and am reminded of it every day. People need to stop focusing on the idea that all the wealthy people are ignorant and selfish.

You're right, you don't understand Obama's tax plan.

Here's a fairly simplistic explanation that you might be able to make sense of: http://www.barackobama.com/taxes/

As for celebrities, if you listen to their endorsements they probably mention the reasons behind them. Not everyone is so selfish as to vote based on whether they personally will be financially better off.

First of all, the polls are so skewed that the are totally unbelievable, so Obama being a sure win is out.

As far as his tax plan is concerned - this early morning news article should give you a pretty precise idea of what his plan is, and the stats come from his own media sources.

Like some of you, CBS News corps tuned in to Sen. Barack Obama's fancy infomercial on Wednesday night. According to reporter Wyatt Andrews, the candidate's big promises didn't add up. Literally. The Illinois senator talked about extending health care to every American ($1.2 trillion over 10 years), rebuilding the military ($7 billion per year), reforming education ($18 billion per year), redirecting energy policy ($15 billion per year), launching a second massive stimulus package ($188 billion over two years), and creating tax cuts for businesses ($85 billion per year). Obama tried to justify the hefty price tag, saying, "I've offered spending cuts above and beyond their cost." By CBS's calculations he is more than $90 billion short. Even if Obama managed to pull troops out of Iraq and slash the federal budget, economists say his spending spree well exceeds what Americans can afford. The Democratic candidate does an impressive job of casting a grandiose vision-but offers no real explanation for how he plans to pay for it.

On Capitol Hill, the Democratic leadership is already offering some clues. If Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) speaks for the majority, taxpayers should be gripping their wallets a little tighter. A few weeks ago, Frank said, "Speaking personally, I think there are a lot of very rich people out there whom we can tax... and recover some of this money." Now, just days later, he and other Democrats say the wealthy won't be the only ones feeling the pain of Obama's plan. "We'll have to raise taxes ultimately," Frank told reporters, frankly.

You're right. When you look at it from just a straight numbers standpoint...it doesn't add up. Even if the "weathly" which is $250,000 or more (if Obama sticks to this which he won't) paid 90% of their income it still wouldn't be enough. Currently the top 10% income earners pay about 70% of the taxes in the country. As you said, 40% do not pay taxes and therefore getting a tax cut is WELFARE. Good reason not to go out looking for a job when the government keeps handing you checks. Also, letting the Bush tax cuts expire is RAISING TAXES on everyone. It's about 5% raise in taxes across the board. So much for cutting taxes.

To avoid trying to explain this with actually economic numbers, which no one seems to believe, check out this scenario about some guys that go to a bar. This is how Obama's tax plan will work. It's also the mentality of Democrats when it comes to taxes and who's getting their fair shake.

Well, you really cant consider it a welfare case because its not free money, like welfare. It would be more money the middle class would keep. I am not sure who I am voting for, but if you read the top of the article, it says its opinion. Thats one thing bad about the article. Also, I have read up on what Obama has said about tax reform, and it doesnt sound like a handout, more like what we have now only further, tax cuts. Who screwed over the economy? Big Business, that had tax cuts. The tax cuts do not trickle down to the employees like it was "intended", it goes into the pockets of the leaders of that business. To say lets tax the middle class and give it to the upper glass is the best you can come up with? I think those hit hardest are the middle class.

It's going to roll your taxes back to where they were in 2000. Were you getting food stamps before that? Why do you wealthy people deserve a bigger slice of the pie when the middle class is shrinking and the economy is going down the drain? What, you couldn't send your kids to boarding school under Bill Clinton?

The middle class currently only pay 2.9% of the tax - while those that are the 10% top earners pay 70% of the tax.

This will HURT opportunities for job creation. Your right, the tax plan is to drop all to middle class and to then make all to poor to the point they must rely on government - an impoverished country controlled by a regime! See the red star on Obama's posters? See what it means!

Why do celebrities endorse him? The union voting system - they are union - if they know how others vote, they know who to black ball!

it's the same progressive tax plan we've had for decades

like every politition he is claiming tax cuts to the middle class and poor and he is to roll back the bush tax cuts on the wealthy to the rate they were under clinton

    2. because they know who pays their salaries (the american people)

it might say a corperate name on the check but that corperation got their money from the consumer

Simplest explanation, over $250K will go back to the pre-Bush tax cuts. They will pay the same amount they were paying 10 years ago, which is 3% more than they are paying now.

  • 1 decade ago

His tax plan is flawed when you consider that someone making $60K, with three children already receive almost everything that they pay in, back. You and your family will be taxed more. Next year, when his ideas do not work, everyone will see tax increases.

Many celebrities are not that smart, but they endorse him so that they can get their name and face out.
