Not to the level of adults since they don't really understand the world around them, but if there are cases out there it would only be as a result of complete ignorance on behalf of the parents or possibly a genetic disorder. If you have a two year old you think is depressed, just take him or her to a doctor for a check up and if they don't notice anything wrong you should be fine, the odds on this are definitely in your favor.

Clinical depression has nothing to do with understanding the world; it is a chemical imbalance. But to be completely honest, if your infant is showing signs that make you think he or she is depressed, you should take your infant to a doctor immediately. Children can exhibit a host of symptoms that appear to be clinical depression and be something much more serious, like FTT (Failure To Thrive) which could lead to long term behavioral and cognitive (especially verbal) dysfunction.

Only a doctor can really answer your question, and should.

Yes anyone can be depressed. there is going to be a reason for the child to be depressed. You need to give more details about thins child! Give the child lots of loving and caring and attention. You need to speak with the child and they will tell you. If you are worried about this you should go see a good health care provider.

I personally dont think a two year could suffer from depression yet they may well be upset about something that is going on or something that has happened.

withdrawn, upset alot for no apparent reason, clingy, sleep problems

If worried i would see your gp/doctor
