How much do I profit from selling a $1.00 item on ebay?

For instance..Say my item has a bid of $1.00 on ebay. How much goes in my pocket after the sale, and shipping? Does the buyer pay for the shipping? Than I pay 10% to ebay, so I profit 90 cents?

First you have to list your item that is going to cost no less than 20cents then you have to pay a percent to ebay of the final value fee if it sales for $1 then you would pay about 8 cents so your out 28 cents right now. then you have to pay a transaction fee when the person sends you money through paypal or propay because ebay no longer lets people send checks or money orders. a minimum fee on paypal is .35 cents plus they charge a percentage of the price you are paid say 5 cents

At this point your out .68 cents and you still have to account for how much you paid for the item.

And yes you can charge the seller shipping.

Since eBay now requires you to offer to take credit cards (via PayPal or another merchant account), you could end up in the negative if the shipping is way more than the cost of the item.

    Example:

$1.00 sale (plus $10 shipping, for example = $11.00 total sale

    - .24 listing and final value fees

    - .61 PayPal fees

    ----------------------------

    $.15 total profit

There is a handy tool that you can use to calculate selling fees based on the starting bid and final value of the sale. It doesn't add the PayPal fees, but you get the idea. It's not worth the hassle most of the time to sell an item for less than $10 considering the buyers can now leave you negative feedback and you have no way of having it retracted. That is so not worth it for $.15.
