Normally D M V in California accepts a police officers verification. The D M V also has verifiers but you would need to take the vehicle to the D M V office. If the fees are due, make sure you buy a trip permit. The trip permit will cost approx $10. Do not take the sticker off.

Have an embossed VIN number tag made up reflecting the certified number. Put the new VIN tag in the same picture next to the unreadable number. Have the policeman sign a statement that the two tags reflect the same VIN number in the photo. Then take it to the DMV and apply again for registration. If there is any question about authenticity, ask to discuss the problem with the DMV Office manager. Or take the motor home to the DMV and have the registrar come out and certifiy the uthenticitya of the new VIN Tag. Most vehicles today have the VIN number in the engine compartment and another just inside the windshield. Place a new matching VIN Tag any place you deem appropriate on your motor home.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net/ that has been around since 1995.
