Cruising Carnival Glory and have a question about clothes.?

My husband and I have cruised with Celebrity and Norwegian before and will be cruising with Carnival in two weeks. To put it pretty frank, my family doesn't like to dress up. And I am always concerned that we wont be dressed appropriately for the dining area. It's not really me I am worried about but my husband and father-in-law. For those of you who have cruised with Carnival, more specifically on the Glory, any input you may have on what you feel was the norm while sailing would be greatly appreciated! THANKS! And I am also curious how the food was-what kind of variety did they have?

generally, on our cruise, and we just returned Saturday, the men wore basically jeans, or dress pants and polo shirts.

on Elegant nights, sports jackets, suits, tux, depended on the man.

Women, most nights, A sunday dress, or cocktail dress, and on elegant nights, a long dress or a nice cocktail dress.

I had some really nice dresses that I had purchased for cruising. more formal/mother of the bride type dresses. one cocktail dress.

A nice pair of pants with a nice top a couple of nights.

Make sure you take a sweater or shawl because the dining room can get cold.

as does the amber palace, and some of the bars.

The food in the dining room was awesome. the Prime Rib was perfection, as was the Veal Parmesan. Make sure you order 2 shrimp cocktails if you like shrimp. there are only 4 in each one.

If you have food allergies, make sure Carnival knows about this, and they will make food special without the seasonings you are allergic to in it. They did me this time (allergies to curry) The lido Red Sail has 2 lines. One line is the special country/food of the day ie.. Caribbean, mexican, etc.... and the other side is American food. Me I always go the food of the day. 24 hr pizza, late night 11:30 - 2 a grille, deli till 11 pm, oriential and fish til 6 pm.

If you drink a lot of soda, or like juice (apple, pineapple, tomato, orange, etc) get the soda card. You will save a lot of money. figure 2$ per drink and if you drink 1 an hour, you use the cost of the fountain card in the first 2 - 3 days.

If you drink alot, get drink coupons in advance. Have them sent to your cabin through the gifts page on Carnival's site.

Photos are quite pricy. 22$ for 8x10 each. 8 for 6x8 and 7 for 5x7.

There is always a varieity of food. depending on what you like hamburgers and fries most all the time. breakfast has a omlet station taht makes special omlets, and special fried eggs. biscuits and gravy every other day, as well as french toast evod, and pancakes evod. fried potaotes, bacon, sausage, grits oatmeal, dry cereals, fresh fruits. milk, yogurt, even lunch meats at breakfast. go figure. And we can not forget the danish.

Breakfast is served till Noon. don't look for lunch till then other than the deli, oriental, and fish or pizza.

Drinks of the day, there are 2 special mugs. One is a coconut mug it is so cute. can be used as a bank once you get it home. The other looks like the smoke stacks.

Hope this gives you a heads up.

I traveled on the Carnival Glory in August 2007

IMO the dress code was not too strict. Someone was in the dinning room with a durag on. Some other people in the dinning rom had on low cut shirts, tight dress pants, and tight dresses, and it was not a sight to see. The food was wide variety one night they even had lobster. If you don't like the things you can always get a cheeseburger.

    Have Fun!

tell them to wear a pair of slacks and a polo shirt and they will be alright. Also, the buffett area is totally casual. As far as food, they usually have a choice of 4 or 5 entrees a night, although not listed, you can also get chicken or steak every night.
