Should we move Veterans day to election day?
Move one or the other, moving the holiday is easier to do. As a vet, I think there is no greater freedom defended than the right to choose our government. While not the perfect solution, I think it's a great start to making the right to vote more accessible to us. Plus, all the old vets can be out handing out cookies or coffee and it's a great chance to take the time and thank a vet.
First of all, someone doesn't realize we actually vote EVERY year, not just every 4 years. Second, I said the holiday is easier to move, but we can move election day if we wanted too, it's just harder to legally move one versus the other.

No. Although I agree that the purpose of the military is to protect our freedom (one of which is the right to choose who runs our government), putting both on the same day doesn't improve the opportunity to vote.
The right to vote starting at 18 is each person's responsibility. Only citizens who have taken the time to REGISTER and actually VOTE have a say in who runs our government. Those of age that don't take the time to find out the registration process AND complete it, have no right to complain. It is that simple.
Honoring military vetrans is a separate issue. Vetran's Day is NOT about the next choices in government. It is our country's way of remembering and honoring military service members who have served in past and present conflicts and wars (not about personal views conflicts or wars). To dillude that honor by combining it with people rushing to the polls, waiting in line to vote, then waiting for the results is absurd. How then are people focused on showing respect or even remembering the vetrans? It would severely diminish the importance of Vetrans Day.
As a relative of current and past vetrans, I can understand the thought process for the two working hand in hand... if not for those protecting our freedoms, the elections would not exist.
I do not have a single issue with vets handing out cookies or coffee. Their presence would give considerate and thoughtful voters a reminder of those that make huge sacrifices so we have the opportunity to vote.
Thank you and all you have done for our country... including missed birthdays, holidays, and other important moments in the lives of loved ones while you were deployed or stationed elswehre. Keep that day special for you and everyone else who has served. :)

Veterans day should be on November 11 since it was originally intended to commemorate the armistice of World War I. However, election day should be a major federal holiday or take place over the course of a weekend to allow as many people to vote as possible.

You make a wonderful point! I'm a vet also. I believe that election day should be made a permanent holiday as well. I really don't understand why it hasn't been made one, especially nowadays. Great idea for handing out refreshments during the voting.

No, I believe veterans were deserving of their own day for recognition of their brave service to America.
I do believe that the Election day should be declared a holiday in itself so that more people would be able to take off work to vote.

No, I don't agree. I do not want anything that will take one second away from the respect we should all show our veterans.
Thank You Vet for your service to this great country. Thank You for the freedoms we continue to enjoy.

No, because I think Veterans should have a special day just to honor their service. Many in my family are vets. Election day is very bittersweet. Thank you for serving!!!

I agree with you to some extent. However, I think that if they were on the same day, it could easily happen that the recognition of veterans and their service to this country would take a back seat to the election.

No. There is a reason that Veteran's Day is celebrated on the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

Let's set it up so only Veterans get the day off. They earned it.

That's a great idea. Election day should be a holiday anyway.
