Should Election day be a American Holiday?

Why hasn't election day been made a american holiday? It seems to me that this day should be made a day to celebrate the freedoms of our country. Also, with people having the day off it would encourage more people and give people more time to vote.

what do you think?

Sure, I want to pay Federal employees, most of whom are already a drain in our system and worthless to get another paid holiday, while small business is forced to stay open simply to pay their freak'n taxes.

That's why there are absentee ballots. Use 'em.

I agree 100%. This day is too important to not be a federal holiday. It should be, and all states should be forced by law to create a more reliable voting process. All machines calibrated but fit with paper receipts that you scan on the way out that confirm what your votes are, and then automatically reconciles that data in the evening, limiting a margin of error on your voting system to o%. .....But that wont happen as long as conservatives have a breadth in their lungs. They need the process to be prone to manipulation as that is the only way they can actually win a national election.

I asked that question yesterday, and most agreed it would seem the logical thing to do.

In my state we mail in our ballots. It's upsetting to see people standing in line 6 hours to vote, when we could make it so much easier.

Makes me wonder why we don't.

No, for three main reasons (I could come up with more). 1-not everyone votes, 2-it does not take 8 full hours to vote (especially during midterm election years), 3-that will put a potential burden on small ( and some large) businesses that will lose business revenue for that day.

Actually, I'd take any day as a federal holiday.

It should be! We could use a day off of school!

It should be a four day weekend with the polls open all four days.
