What do you think of the results -- Internet Baseball Awards, AL Rookies?

The Internet Baseball Awards, administered by the good folks at Baseball Prospectus (http://www.baseballprospectus.com),/ were announced today for the American League honorees (NL tomorrow).

The IBAs are open to anyone on the Web (registered with BP), so the electorate is much larger than what the BBWAA uses for their awards. Much more democratic, much more fun, and the self-selected population tends to be much more driven by statistical performance than mere narrative.

Here, the 2008 AL Rookie Of The Year top results:

rank, kid (team) -- ballots -- points

1. Evan Longoria (Tampa Bay) -- 1393 (of 1439) -- 6685

2. Alexei Ramirez (Chicago) -- 620 --1542

3. Mike Aviles (Kansas City) -- 575 -- 1443

4. Joba Chamberlain (New York) -- 386 -- 830

5. Jacoby Ellsbury (Boston) -- 300 -- 722

Another Tampa Bay landslide, this one for Longoria, which was very much to be expected.

But -- LOOK HERE, powers that be, this is a QUESTION -- what is your (the reader) opinion of these results? How do you think it will compare with the BBWAA AL ROY results (announced 10-November)?

My ballot:

1. Longoria, 2. Ramirez, 3. Ellsbury

Longoria definitely wins, but according to the majority of the posters in yahoo baseball, he is also a Hall of Famer.

Yeah the world had already decided this award was Longoria's the minute he got called up.

I think that these selections are all good.

After # 1, any order is OK by me as far as any other listed candidates are concerned.
