If centrifugal force on a pilot is fictitious, why will she pass out when flying a loop that pulls 6g's?
So I understand the centrifugal on the pilot is fictitious because she feels like she is moving outward even though there is no actual force on her outward. The only forces are the centripetal force on her inward and the centrifugal force on the PLANE outward because it is the reaction force to centripetal...
So it seems like the pilot passing out would have nothing to do with centrifugal force at all...and I dont understand why she would pass out in the first place

The pilot is in contact with the plane so it supplies a force to her as you move in a loop, the pilot in turn supplies a reactionary force to the plane which is what is felt as a constant force downwards or centrifugal force. However as force is a vector with both magnitude and direction this force cannot be constant as the direction is always changing hence it being a fictitious constant FORCE but real a phenomenon. In other words it is a series of ever changing forces giving the illusion of a constant force.

Centrifugal force is said to be a pseudo force because it feels like a force pushing away from the center of rotation, but there is no mechanism for this force. The actual force is towards the center of rotation, and it results from circularly accelerating frame of reference. Sorry, its hard to put in words without being able to show with diagrams, but essentially the outward force is not real, but the inward force is, and that is what causes passing out.

There is nothing fictitious about the G forces in a loop. The blood is forced to the lower extremities. A lack of blood in the brain causes the pilot to pass out.

seph: The direction is changing, but the magnitude is constant. It's not a series of forces, it's a single force (with an opposite partner, of course.)

because of her bood's (and whole body's for that matter) inertia. the inertia is the resistance to a change in velocity. when she pulls up, a force begins pushing her upwards, while her blood wants to continue straigh ahead. so, it goes down to it's feet, her brain lacks oxygen, and she passes out.

blood is forced away from the head by the g force causing pilot to pass out..............thats why they wear pressure suits to counteract this

stress, anxiety, or fear. all of those can make you pass out
