Not worth the trouble. Just the work on the bolt face would be a huge undertaking. By the time you alter every part of the rifle, you may as well have simply had a custom rifle built.

Not worth the trouble? Kinda lame answer there, John. "Trouble" isn't the case when it comes to making a custom gun. It's not done for the value and it's not priced in dollars.

It's been done, JK. It used to be pretty common, in fact. That one company back in the mid 20th cent (I can talk about them all the time, but the name just won't come to me right now. You know the ones?) used to import those old mil surp guns by the thousands and rebarrel them as sporters. The .30-30 Carcano was one of theirs. All it really entails is working on the boltface....that was done by turning it down flat and then tapping it for a steel sleeve which was then heli-arced into place around the bolt head. Get the extractor worked out, rebarrel it and you're done. The mag was close enough.

Lots of folks today will try to tell you the Carcano isn't strong enough etc. That's amateur/poser bull. The Carcano was often rebarreled to 8mm JS Mauser by the Italians and the Nazis. That's the full strength round, not the weaker crap from today.

Back then, the Carcano round was hard to come by. Conversions made a lot of sense. Today, Carcano ammo is easy to get and easier to reload. I think I'd stick to the original myself.

I'm with John. Also, you would have a heck of a time making the enbloc clip work with a rimmed cartridge like the 30/30.
