Now that we have an African-American president-elect...?
can I go back to calling myself an American? Instead of African-American or Asian American or Irish American or Mexican American or Italian American or German American or Greek American.

You are free to call yourself whatever you want.
I personally don't mind the designations because America's a country of many cultures, religions and customs, and there's nothing wrong in recognizing our many cultures.
It can be done without being divisive. The problem is the extremists.

Do what you want...but conventional sociology wisdom says that terms like "African American" and "Irish American" are good things for a country.
In France for example they don't have such hybrids, and their probably about 30 years behind America in terms of race relations.

I am an American. You too are an American. Race has nothing to do with it. Unless you are filling out documents

Yes but if you choose to still be a part of your other Heritage in some small way you can still call yourself "Scandinavian America" well that's what I am , Danish, Swedish Norwegian, (and a little German besides)

Put whatever adjective you want in from of American. You can be a fat American, or just American.

I don't know. I think I am still going to have to be an American Indian, to avoid confusion with the other Indians.

HOw about African American when relating to culture, ***** when relating to race and plain ol' American when relating to political or geographical description.
For myself I would be Anglo American relating to culture, Caucasion relating to race and American when relating to political or geographical description.

He's also a caucasion president elect. Half and half. Thats right, the african american race can quit taking all the credit and acknowlege that half. Yea, right.
