What is the policy of sending alcohol (but not really) to a soldier in the Mideast?

Ok, so I got a buddy in Kuwait right now and I want to send him some stuff, one item being a fruitcake (Christmas is coming soon, after all). Thing is is that this particular fruitcake has brandy in it. It's not a part of the batter and would not be cooked out. The cake itself is sorta basted in it and it's more like a rum cake.

Does anyone know the current guidelines for this kind of thing? I know for a fact that you can't send alcohol, but I figure that to be more like bottles of the stuff rather than it being used as a flavoring ingredient.

Thanks.

Well.. it depends on where he is and how he will receive the mail..

But ALL types of alcohol are not permitted in Kuwait. Other Middle Eastern countries mostly don't have a problem with it, except for Saudi Arabia, and Sharjah.

So, frankly, I don't recommend it, but if you want to try, it's a chance that you take.. though, if it's in cake form it's probably not going to arouse suspicion. So it's your call :)

Well I do know that even though it is not allowed my friend sent a bottle of Jack Daniels to a Marine in Iraq not too far back. My understanding is that as long as they kept it quite and didn't let the officers know they were fine.

Of course this sort of thing would be looked at differently base to base, branch to branch, and officer to officer.

I doubt the fruitcake would be a problem. Well, I'm not sure how well the cake will survive the trip but the alcohol shouldn't be a problem.

P.S. I don't recommend trying to send a bottle of alcohol unless your soldier tells you specifically that it won't be a problem (despite being against the rules)

You can send the freaking fruit cake. But absolutely no alcohol in country. If you do you better disguise it well and pray he doesn't get caught.

The best bet is to phone up like the army and ask them I think they may be able to tell you if you can send a cake it's not like your trying to ply him up with voddie
