This is actually a very tricky thing that I've learned to be very careful with... I think it's actually safer to use either a credit card or a pre-paid cash card to make purchases online or purchases that are done without you standing right there... why? Because by giving your debit card (regardless of if they make the charge as a "debit" or "credit" charge) you are basically opening up Checking Account to any errors or theft that may happen relating to this transaction! Granted, your bank will most likely return any money that you lost as a result of it...however...that is NOT an instantaneous process...leaving you, for what could be days, weeks, or even months with limited or no CASH!
On the other hand, if anything unexpected or fraudulent happens with a CREDIT card transaction, even if the item you purchased wasn't what you were originally promised, the credit card company simply reverses the charges related ...and you're out nothing...and you're not stuck without money!
I think that treating that debit card...regardless of "credit or debit"...like a key to your bank vault is a very good policy...you have to look out for "Number One" first and foremost...!
Good Luck...and I LOVE Sephora!!!

debit/credit is the same thing when paying with a card. Debit cards are secured by cash in the bank and credit is a line of credit, which essentially can be viewed as available funds in your checking account. The only time debts and credits are different are in the accounting world ;-)
you are okay.

it's always possible to run a debit card as a credit card as long as it has the visa or master card logo. if you call over the phone or order something online they will always run as a credit card. DO NOT give out your pin number, that's a big security risk and you should never be asked for it over the phone or online.

What? Did you do this in person, online or over the phone?
If you paid with debit, they shouldn't ask for you a number @ all. Even if you paid with credit, you should NOT have been asked for a number.
Did you sign anything?

If you didn't have to enter your PIN then I am guessing they ran it as a credit vs. a debit card.

debit cards can usually be used interchangeably......it would be smarter to say credit because you get the benefit of all things that your card visa or m/c offers like....the dispute process

umm.. thats not right.. if you swiped your card they should not need your cc account number. you only should have entered a pin or a signature..
keep an eye on your account balance, make sure there are no mysterious withdrawals or charges.
