I agree with him. People made up that name as short term for "newbie" or also known as new player. But nowadays, they use it as insult to a person who seems to be stupid, especially when it comes to playing a particular online game.

well to tell you the truth, there was no first noob
noob was a word made for the sole purpose of saying new player, over time the people of multiple online games started using it to refer to stupid/annoying person.
That is the origin of the word noob =)
