Is it againt God and the Bible to be a Fighter Pilot - All Christians with an opinion, Please Let Me Hear It!!?

I'm 17 and I want to be a fighter pilot...

Let me first tell you why I want to be one:

1 - I love speed (a F-22 Raptor can go over 1600mph) - Which is why I don't wanna be a normal pilot...

2 - I'm an adrenaline junkie...

3 - I love aeroplanes...

4 - I love flying...

5 - I'm physically fit - and I love it (I love exercise and training, etc)

6 - I like standing up for people who can't do it for themselves (in fights, etc)

Now , let me point out the problem - I'll have to kill people...

And as you can imagine, being a Christain, that's a pretty big problem...

But, I'm not certain of it...

You see, in the Bible, it says, "Thou shalt not Murder."

But it also says that laying your life down for your friends is the ultimate form of love... - And by risking my life every day to protect and save my friends and family, is that not laying my life down for them?

And look at stories like David and Goliath, David killed Goliath to save his people and his village...

And, although no human has the right to judge another human, I'm sure that everyone I killed would be non-christain (and according to the Bible, they will spend eternity burnig in hell, so I don't think I could do anything to them that would be worse then hell.)

However, it says, "Love your enemies.", and "Love each other as I have loved you."

So, I'm not really sure what to do... There are certain things in the Bible that would make it ok to do, but then there are other things that make it not ok...

So can my fellow Christians please give me some advice?

Is there really a difference between "Murder" and "Killing"?

I don't want to be a fighter pilot to kill people... If I wanted to kill people, I'd rather be a ground troop (they'll get to kill lots more people)...

Is it still murder to protect and save your family, friends and country but killing?

The bottom line is, Killing is Killing - you will be ending a life...

But was it Murder when David killed Goliath to save his village? - Not according to the Bible...

Does God look at the reason for the killing? - or does he look at all killing the same?

If a man takes a gun and points it at your family and threatens to kill them, and you take out a gun and kill him - is that murder? - Should you rather allow the man to kill your family? - Because that's what the army does essentially - If the British decided not to have an army, or police, or any form of physical defence, Britain will be burnt and destroyed within a week, there'd be no-one and nothing left...

So like I said, I don't know if it is Noble, or Cold Blooded Murder...

I wish I could speak to God and ask him - I've tried Preying, but I haven't got anything yet - So can you please give me the best advice you have...

Am I merely justifying Murdering people? - Or, is Killing someone to protect your country, family and friends not a good thing?

I could be totally wrong, but I need you to tell me what you think...

Would it be against God, Jesus, and the Bible to Join the Air Force and kill the enemy even though you would be protecting your Country, Family and Friends?

Also, I would be doing it in Britain, Not America...

I'm aware of all the controversy about the American army, and what they're really fighting for - 'Peace' - or Money...

Is the British army currently involven in any wars/battles, and if so, are their motives clear, or is it equally controversial?

P.S, I'll be Immigrating to England in 2 months... My Fathers Grand-Father faught in WW1 for Britain, and my Fathers Father faught in WW2 in the RAF (Royal Air Force), and he was the youngest pilot ever (He was only 16)... I'm 17, and if I became a Fighter Pilot, it would be for the RAF...

So whats your opinion on all this?

Thank you... Take Care... Cheers...

Em...

As you probably know, there is a "time for war" (Ec. 3:8). However, your love for God must exceed your love for all other things (Deut. 6:4-5). Be careful about concluding that wearing a uniform, for any nation, eliminates your first obligation to God (Luke 9:23).

    Good news / bad news

    1) There's nothing in the Bible that would prevent you from becoming a fighter pilot for your country.

    2) There is no way in God's green earth I would turn over an airplane to the type of person who wrote that "question."

    Sorry, Sparky.

God raised and lead armies throughout the Old Testament. God is not against war. It is more of who are you fighting for. America is a Christian nation, founded by believers and religious men.

America has good principles, is against oppression of people and government. America fights against terror and genocide of masses of people.

    It is a good fight.

Without warriors who would have stopped Hitler, Mussolini, Sadam.

Depends on who you are fighting for.

God will even send angels who will slay 1/3 of mankind.

God kills at times. It is all His creation. If he put that desire in your heart, you can trust that is your purpose and mission from Him.

He asks you believe in His Son, Jesus. And Jesus reminds us no one goes to the Father except thru Him, Jesus the son.

If you have any doubts you will never be able to do your job. Sometimes there are civilian casualties. I would ventue to say, almost every soldier dislikes killing especially innocents. But we do not have to fear death anymore. Jesus has the keys to death and hell.

Plus look at all the post traumatic stress from the wars. No one likes death and killing.

I really view war as part of the curse, men especially are to see.

The results of sin. A hard thing.

But if it is in you, please settle it fully, before proceeding any further, for your own success.

6 words......God does not approve of war. The apostle James wrote of the origin of armed conflict: "Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war" (James 4:1-2).

These words apply to nations as well as individuals, since nations are simply groups of people looking out for their own interests. Aggressors go to war out of a desire to enhance their power, prestige and wealth. In so doing they thrust aside law, ethics, morality and peace. They kill and maim to further their ends, putting into practice the might-makes-right principle and the maxim that to the victor belongs the spoils.

Ironically, nations that freely choose violence, including warfare, often inherit a fate similar to that of the countries they crush. Jesus understood this when He said: "... All who take the sword will perish by the sword" (Matthew 26:52). History is a chronicle of the succession of empires conquering and being conquered. Mankind is doomed to repeat the cycle as long as disobedience to God remains its chosen way.

It is a noble thing to defend your country whenever you can. King David wasn't a fighter pilot, obviously, but I'll bet if airplanes and jets were around back then, he'd have been a fighter pilot as well.

    God's Best to you.

Be Well, Be Wise, Be Blessed.

Well, old testament God had a penchant for war/killing. Jesus not so much but did worship old testament God as a Father and Decider.

We are living in the end days. All the wars that are being fought now are to bring in their One World Government that the antichrist will rule over.

And Jesus said 'all men shall be sailors that until the sea shall free them'

So....no - you can't be a fighter pilot. But Admiral on a Battleship should be ok.
