How long does a bulb of garlic last if it hasn't been opened? ?
Also, is there a surefire way to tell if it is bad?

If you have stored it in a cool, dry area (not the refrigerator) it can last up to 2-3 months. When in doubt of it's freshness, hold the bulb in your hand and squeeze the ends, if it sinks in a bit, then it has started to spoil. If you want to save it, cut the bulb in half, drizzle it with Olive Oil, wrap it in tinfoil and bake it at 250 degrees for about 1/2 hour, then squeeze out the garlic in a bath of Olive Oil and refrigerate it, it will hold for another month since the oil will solidify on top, and seal the garlic in. Hope this helps you out today to cherish and save such a wonderful ingredient and herb!

if you keep it stored in a dry area that lets it get air it can last 5-6 months depending on how fresh the garlic is and when you open it can last 2 weeks to a month.
