people of mixed races, did the term mutt offend you?

obama referred to himself as a mutt, because his dad was black and his mom white, does the term mutt offend you?

Update:

so he can say it because he is mixed race, but if a white or black or other race would say mutt then it is wrong?

Update 2:

he referred to mix of races, not a mix of nationality.

Update 3:

thanks gabby,you got my point.

Update 4:

so if mccain or palin would have called him a mutt it would be acceptable?

Update 5:

aymee you said it just as i was typing it.

Update 6:

not many of you understand, what he want to call himself is one thing,to say it in public now can subject children of mixed races to be called mutts. obama was irresponsible saying it in public.now if a child gets teased with the name mutt, there will be no recourse because the president said it is ok

Obviously Obama didn't mean it in any negative way. When you use terms to refer to yourself it is usually taken, and meant, quite differently than if someone else uses those same terms that don't describe themselves. That is a given.

That is a pretty common sense analysis that refers to many categories including race, ethnicity, national origin, even place of residence, etc. and I am fail to see why some people can't understand that.

The list of things a person can call themselves that you should not call another person is quite long.

When I was a kid, people would jokingly use the term "all american" to dress up the background of a non-pedigreed dog, so mutt is not a term that is exclusive to a bi-racial person.

Extreme racists call all Americans mongrels - so mutt is quite mild.

  • No. I volunteer for a local humane shelter. Mutts make the best pets. As for people, I have no problem with folks of mixed races. This is America and we are a melting pot. It's character that matters. Don't take this so seriously.

The reason why it's not offensive is because he referred to himself as a mutt. Nobody called him that, he called himself that.

Most people in the world today are mutts. We are all mixed. Once we became a global society, we became mixed, or rather "mutts". BUT, that doesn't give us the right to make derogatory comments to others and call them mutts. THAT would be offensive.

Just because your skin is white, or black, doesn't mean you aren't a mutt. Double Negative. I'm a mixed race, I'm both polish and german. So what?

wait... did suthrnngal and I just agree on something?

    Now I've seen everything.

I personally do not know one person that isn't a mutt. I'm a mutt mixed with german, british and native indian.

You know, a Mutt dog sometimes turns out to be a very good dog, so let's not be offended by a very human analogy by our President elect.

Of course not..because Obama said it..had McCain or some other whitey had said it, it would have the new N word.

I prefer Heinz 57 myself....I would rather be considered tasty than a mangy dog.
