NASCAR Nation, when your favorite driver retires?

It could take a while for some of you fans, but when your favorite driver calls it quits, do you think you will stick with your favorite driver's team or go with your second favorite driver as your number one favorite? Also, will your favorite always be your all-time favorite- current or retired?

Already happened.........I was a die hard Rusty Wallace fan. I just this year found a new favorite in carl Edwards. So to answer your question I have 1 favorite but several that I like & support to an extent. When my fave retires I just root for all of those drivers until a certain driver stands out & really catches my attention. That's what happened.

After Rusty retired I just sort of drifted from driver to driver until this year when Carl grabbed my full attention & now he's my fave. Until this year I had 1 Carl shirt & maybe 2 diecast cars. Since I attended the July Daytona race I have 10 tshirts, 2 sweatshirts, 4 caps, a pit board sign, seat cushion, aflac duck, car hauler, 8 diecast cars, earrings, key chain, backpack, creditional holder, & other misc Carl Edwards merchandise.

As for your other question until I became a Carl Edwards fan I would have & did choose Rusty was my all-time fave. Right now though it would be a toss-up between the 2. Although I would probably give carl the nod because a few months back I read an article saying that Rusty was considering coming out of retirement. My 1st thought was no, he can't. It's taken me 2 years to find a new favorite & I just don't know if I could go back to rooting for Rusty as passionately as I did before he retired.

Well, Davey Allison was my favorite before he died, and he remains a favorite. Just because they leave the track doesn't mean they leave your heart and memory.

It's the drivers I care about, not the teams, so I won't automatically pull for whoever fills their spot.

I don't really feel an affinity for any of the younger drivers that are currently out there. But somebody always comes along. I didn't think I'd ever watch NASCAR again after Davey died, actually did stop watching for awhile, but then I got into Mark Martin. I didn't think I'd like any other driver as well as Mark when he retired either--those first races without him in them were just empty--and I stumbled across Elliott Sadler <LOL.> Now I have 2 favorite drivers. So who knows.

Senior will always be my favorite, hands down, when it comes to Junior, who I also will always be a fan, when he retires it's hard to say, if it's 10 to 15 years from now, along with some of the other drivers that are around now retire when he does. Now for some of the younger drivers like Ragan or Regan Smith seem like good young drivers, and with all who will be driving in the Sprint cup in the years to come it is really hard to say. Very good question.

I'll find somebody else. I'm not sure what criteria I'll use. My favorite driver for a long time was Dale Jarrett. I already decided Matt Kenseth was my favorite driver before he retired. When Kenseth retires, I don't know what I'll do. I won't necessarily stick with the team, because I hate the whole team concept of racing anyway.

  • Well, all of my favorite drivers are pretty young, except for Smoke, but I still don't have to think about that right now.

When Hamlin retires, he'll always be my all-time favorite. He's the reason I got back into NASCAR.

Kyle will always be my second favorite and Logano, my third. But at least, those two are young. They'll be around for plenty of years.

I'm a Tony Stewart fan, so when he retires at least he'll still be around as an owner etc. I'd probably just go with my second favorite driver, unless I really like a guy driving for Tony's team.

I think because it's an individual sport, and not a team sport, it's ok to switch once the driver retires. A team goes on forever, drivers are individuals. Example: I had an old friend who's favourite driver was Harry Gant, he moved onto Mark Martin afterwards, but never forgot about his loyalty to Gant. If your a fan of the sport you'll gravitate to someone else, you have to when your guy retires.

I think I got about 10-15 years before he retires altogether. By then I am sure there will be someone that will catch my eye.

I will probably go where my other favorite driver will be.

He will always always be my favorite driver, retired or not.

When Bobby retires, which could be soon, I will have Jamie still to root for. I probably wont root for Petty Enterprise as my favorite, I mean I will root for them IF they are up front but other than that not really. And Bobby will always be my all time favorite because I have had him as my favorite driver since I starte watching the sport.
