What is there to do in London ?????????
You name it and you can do it in London - London is a huge city with everything in it - more shops than you can visit in a month, there are museums (of every type science/history/nature), historic buildings ,Churches, Abbeys , Castles , theaters, restaurants , night clubs, street markets, cinemas, tourist attractions (like the London Eye and Madame Tussuad's) ,there is the seat of the UK government , the homes of the royalty (Buckingham palace etc.) , the River Thames with boat trips, - There is so much more and I would suggest you visit :-
for a more complete list of what and where .

For a large city, London is pretty safe, just use common sense about money, credit cards and where you are at night. Stay in well-lit areas, etc Just pay attention to where you are, and who is around you, pickpockets are watching for confused tourists. And most of Central London is quite crowded most of the time, so really, you will be fine.
As far as hotel vs hostel--depends on what your comfort needs are. Hostels are a great way to save some money, but your privacy is greatly reduced-- I've read it's advised not to leave your belongings unattended, even if you go for a shower. Shop around for cheaper hotels or B& B's--even look in zone 2 or 3 for better rates--and you will still be just a 20-30 minute train ride from the city (and the trains run fairly often so you won't be stuck unless you stay out late at night)

There is so much to do in London, you couldn't list it. Get on an internet site and check it out. If you are mega rich, stay in hotels. Otherwise hostels are the choice, and they aren't cheap either. London is a very expensive town to live in, and even more to holiday in.
It isn't dangerous.

what's to do? ... pretty well anything you want (unless it's illegal, in which case it might be there but won't be advertised) ... this is a huge cosmopolitan city with loads of history
dangerous? ... not especially so, a darned sight safer than a lot of places ... I've lived here years and don't feel especially threatened
