parents with prop 8 signs in their yards...?

im 13 so i cant vote but im VERY interested in politics. i almost always side liberal but i definitely have an open mind. anyway, naturally i got interested in prop 8, and was very strongly against it. it passed of course but thats not my point. my point is that many people, especially parents, were against prop 8 b/c they didn't want kids learning about gay marriage or homosexuallity in general, i guess. but people then put up signs that say "yes on prop 8" in their yard for this reason, and then what happens? their kids are almost definitely gonna ask what that big thing in my yard is, and you gotta explain prop 8, then you just taught them about gay marriage, defeating the whole purpose. anyone have explanations or any comments?

oh btw i cannot for the life of me figure out why someone would be against gay marriage so if someone wants to explain it to me email me (whuzzap@yahoo.com)

Doesn't make any sense to me. Other than, when their children ask... they just don't answer them. Some people find that ignorance is bliss.

As to why people are against gay marriage.... well their are lots of reasons. Mainly, if gay people are married they would get tax breaks (able to claim spouses). Some people don't want that, because it may take away from funding certain things that they support (without the extra tax money being acquired). It always comes down to money.

Also, some people don't support it for religious reasons, but religion is supposed to be separate from laws. So, that isn't a good enough reason. My look at it in a religious factor is that... when you break it down... all people came from Adam and Eve. So, technically speaking, aren't we all inbred? Shouldn't we all not be allowed to marry due to that? Really, religion shouldn't even come into factor with this.

I don't know. It doesn't matter. I don't believe you have to have the government tell you who to spend the rest of your life with. Buy some rings and do your own little ceremony. Just call yourselves "married". Draw up a will that leaves the other one with everything you have after you die. Put everything (car note, mortgage, etc.) in both of your names. I mean, really, the only thing you set to gain from legal gay marriages that you can't have already IS a tax break. When it comes down to it... a marriage certificate is just a piece of paper. It's what is in your heart that matters. Look at the huge divorce rate and you'll get what I'm saying.

I have nothing against gays whatsoever. I have had gay roommates and have gay friends and relatives that I Adore. I have had many discussions with them on this topic. My understanding is that most gays in relationships want the rights of Married couples and I agree with them having those rights such as medical privileges, material holdings protected, and insurance benefits as a few examples. These can be achieved through a civil union and does not have to come through "marriage". My problem with gay "marriage" is that it does not fit the definition of marriage and by changing that it devalues the very thing it stands for.

That's just my opinion and the way I see it

Do you want to know the actual worst sign? You are all biasing your answers off of specific people you know. The zodiac sun sign of an individual is a frequency within oneself that affects traits, physical form, and the feeling one emits. One's sign does not essentially determine traits, but it does affect them in a manner towards the supposed determinations. "Worst" is a very broad term, but basically the negative things conventionally considered are: Selfishness Stupidity Annoyance Blandness Evilness Stubbornness The majority of human beings are reeking with these traits regardless of their sign. If 12 people all with different zodiacs signs were 100% like their zodiac sign with no other traits, they would have different heights within each of these faults. But from an objective perspective, although they are all worse differently, they are not a larger value of worse than each other. For the universe plus consciousness develops twelve harmonics of differentiation but all divisions are equal. From one note to itself higher on the musical scale is 12 away, on the rainbow counting mixing primarys with tertiarys there are 12 colors. A sphere has 6 basic sides relative to the XYZ axis and two sides to make up one point relative from the center to the end of a half axis, 6x2 is 12. There are 12 zodiac signs. Red is different from blue, but whether or not it's worse is an opinion. It is just as much a color, but in a different direction. Every sign has a grand up and down, just like everything else in the universe. So what is the worst zodiac sign? Is there one at all? Yes of course there is, but it's your opinion! I can't say I have a least favorite sign, I see the positive in all of them and just see the negative as something they can work on. So be sure to not claim a sign as the worst sign, (unless pertaining to a specific thing, such as selfishness, or ability to kayak or something), instead claim it as your least favorite. I just can't stand you guys making people feel like **** for the sign they are. If you throw in that it's just your personal preference that'll totally ease the bite.

Good Point. I think Churches should lose their tax exempt status anyway. Didn't most of the funding for the Yes on 8 campaign come from churches and church-related groups? So, they can't pay taxes and yet they donate millions of dollars to a regressive, conservative, and ignorant group of people who make up the yes on 8 campaign. Religious people are pretty narrow minded if you ask me.

Source(s): Religious people should mind their own business.

This has been bothering me as well. The conflict that arises in mind is the freedom of religion and in this freedom, does it not provide for the right NOT to choose? Separation of church and state is supposed to give way to individuality and not have uniform ideologies or ideas. In theory, we are to expand own minds to come upon our own beliefs and not have morals dictated to us.

The issue was bigger than just not allowing gay marriages.

Public schools also would have had to remove the mention of marriage from text books and replace them with words like unions. Churches that refused to allow gay marriage would have lost their tax exemption.

sounds like you sorta know about gay marriage.

i personally feel that people can do almost anything they want as long as it is not a threat to other or themselves but i do not feel that a small group of people should change the laws so that the majority has to conform to their wishes.

Well, you may pick up a Bible at the bookstore. It will explain everything to you there. Too bad your parents failed at teaching you what is REALLY important.
