I like the ipod suggestion as well. Maybe buy her a new nanochromatic one, so you can pick her favorite color.

If she has a special music taste that you know of, it'd be cool if you actually loaded the ipod with songs she likes, and songs you think she'll like!

Woah this woman isn't my type of woman either I hope you're okay! If you dont mind falling out with her (as tbh she doesn't seem like the woman you want in your life) why not get her an ironic book like "how to stop being an alcoholic gambler" :p or buy her some kind of cigarette lighter or a cheap bottle of alcohol. Or, if you feel you must keep the peace then an impersonal gift like chocolate or wine or something would suffice. You don't owe this woman anything and you could just get her a Christmas card and a really small present :)

If you really want to get her something meaningful and personal and say that you love her, I think you should make it yourself. This might be unrealistic if you haven't got much time, but you can at least make a card and in it tell her how you feel and how you'd want to get to know her better. If you're making something you can look through books and the internet to get some ideas. But whatever you do, just remember that what's most important is the way you give the gift. Find out her favourite flower, tree, shrub and have a living plant delivered

to her with a card saying something along the lines of "as this plant has grown so has my love for you and hopefully it will continue to grow for years to come" just make sure it is healthy and your Step-Mum is a 'green thumb'. Or, just a floral arrangement with a card. I love receiving flowers and never do so I would be thrilled with that.

Make up a 'cheque' for 4 hours of 'girl-time' the next time you get together.

The more simple it is the more heartwarming it is received.

Being a Step-Mum is one of the loveliest people to be when our step-child accepts us and says 'I love you' in all honetsy.

or i think the iPod with a $25 or $50 (whichever you can afford) music card is a great idea! Walmart sells songs for like 88 cent or something so a $50 gift card would be a great start to her building a music collection or even $25. good luck!
