Did I vote for Obama for the wrong reasons?

I go to school at UW-Madison and a ton of people were sporting the Obama pins on their bags and they wrote to vote for Obama all over the sidewalks in chalk. I was afraid that if I said I wouldn't vote for him people would think i'm a loser. I voted for Obama and while I stood in line someone from the Wisconsin public radio asked me if I'm glad I voted and I said, "YES! It's time for the blacks to have just as many rights as the whites. If Obama wins presidency maybe people will stop being racist to not only black people but to the Mexicans and the people who came from Asia." But I don't know anything other else about Obama and someone told me that I shouldn't vote if I don't really understand the real politics. Did I vote for the wrong reasons?

Update:

Well, maybe I would have voted for McCain if i knew who he was! I was just told that Sarah Palin is a dummy because she likes to hunt and hunts out of her helicopter. LOL bad for the environment doesn't she know that animals are going extinct? she's so dumb.

No. Because you're a fake and a liar. You are white pretending to be black. Why would any sane black person or person of color vote for McCain knowing he's a racist? He called blacks tar babies and Asians g00ks. McCain voted against the M:L holiday and voting for Katrina victims. You are a McCainiac troll.... You're not black. ><

Obama is for everything against the Bible and there comes a time when you have to stand up for God instead of a worldly leader. These are some things that he is for that he spoke of.

Partial birth abortion: While using an ultrasound, the abortionist uses forceps and grabs the babies legs and pulls but leaves the babies head inside and then uses scissors and stabs the live baby in the skull and opens the scissors to open the skull and then sucks the brains out and then throws the baby out like he/she was trash and not a living human being with a soul. That's dispicable and anyone who is for that is evil. That is not pro-choice under any circumstances, that is murder.

Taxing working families who make 250 grand and over: To give to the lower or middle class and the lazy people who won't work and expect and want that hand out. I for one, will not take that hand out, being in the middle class. That is wrong and people need to work for their own money. I understand helping people, yes, but not being forced to do it. That's what charities and organizations and volunteering are for.

Gay marriage(making it legal): Personally, I do not have a problem with gays, but I do not believe there should be a law that allows them to be sinful and the Bible clearly states one man and one woman are to be united and married and homosexuality is an abomination.

Raising gun and ammo prices by 500%: What happens when someone comes to rob your house or murder you, knowing that you are defenseless. This will increase crime, not reduce it. And it will give way to terrorists to come here once they get word that we do not have protection.

These are just a few of the many, many reasons I did not and would never vote for Barack Obama. I will stand with God and His Word, rather than fall with the world.

What is the legal voting age; and are you there yet.(lol) I know that you're the legal voting age or you wouldn't have voted; but why are you claiming to be black and writing in on Yahoo Answers instead of talking to your family about this. (if you are a black person)

I am sure you are wise and old enough to make a wise decision w/o asking others how you should vote, if you choose to vote for a President because of race, always remember someone else out there

will not vote for the black President because of race as well.

Well I'm not saying you shouldn't have voted, but, people are still going to be racist. You should find out some background info on any candidate before voting for them. However, at least you voted. And for better or worse, there is no wrong reason for voting. As soon as anyone needs to justify how or why they voted a certain way, then other people will just try and put restrictions on voting, like education level for example. It just isn't American. So regardless of why you voted lets hope Obama does well for this country. Because like it or not, he is here.

So, you stood in line to vote, even though you don't know anything about the candidates. Then you told people you were voting for Obama, because you wanted to sound cool. And then, you actually voted for Obama, because.. why? Oh well, moving right along,.. You then stood in line again, even though you had already voted. And someone from public radio approached you, and you made up some garbage about why you voted for Obama. And now you're worried because you think the garbage you made up may not be true?

And you're a student at University of Wisconsin? I mean, really? University of Wisconsin?

Maybe you should go back to your old job at the sandwich kiosk in the mall.

The vote is actually kept secret so that you won't have to tell people how you voted and "feel like a loser". And only you know if you voted for the wrong reasons. To some people, what you just stated sounds like the right reason to them. To others, they like to vote on campaign promises. Still others have a feeling about a person.

We are a democratic republic for that reason. You can vote however you want to, and the electoral college can vote your way or based on their own interpretation of the facts.

A vote casted for equality, is the right vote. Never feel ashamed for voting because you wanted to support the American Dream. If we never had a black president, then we would never be able to make a progressive step toward a colorless or a gender free nation. Your right, it is time for us to have just as many rights as anyone else!.. That's a excellent reason to vote for anyone!

Be careful how easily you might be persuaded by those around you or by those herein.

My elderly father voted for President-Elect Obama since he felt, simply, that he was a "good man." My father is a retired government bureaucrat.

So, you see, you can vote as you wish and upon the grounds you wish. Best of luck going forward.

(Note: In the case that you are not who you say you are, I would suggest psychiatric therapy for manipulative disorder.)

Yes, you voted for the wrong reasons...popularity and race are not reasons to vote for a candidate. There was SO much more at stake in this election.

But fortunately you voted for the man with the most promising plan for America. In the future, take time to read what the candidates stand for before you vote.

On the other hand, you voted for your own reasons. Was popularity and race important enough to you? If you are happy with the choice you made based on your own reasons then you voted the way you should have voted. But if you have doubts (and had doubts then) you should have taken time to find out more about what the candidates stood for.

    EDIT:

I just read your additional notes...and I take everything back. You probably shouldn't have voted at all.

You voted for all the wrong reasons. You are naïve if you believe a black president is going to end racism. I have heard more racist jokes since Obama got elected. The racists are coming out of the closet!
